I've seen a number of posts about this before and im really interested in getting some for my buggy. It is really dark really early now and i wanna drive. I was thinking about putting them on the wing or something since buggies don't have light socket things.
If there are any that are made to go on buggies (which i doubt
), then where can i buy them.
If not, ill just buy some for rc cars. If this is what i have to do then does anyone have any ideas on how to hook them up??
I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

www.rcneon.com has alot of cool stuff, you cn put them anywhere on the body, but if you dont want to waste the money, go to radioshack buy some LEDS and resistors(not sure wat AMP or watever) and a 9volt battery connecter, some wiresif you dont have any and hook it up, the resistors are put on the plus wire going out of the batt, after that hook the LEDS up, the resistior keeps a certain amount of power going to lights so it wont burn out, without it it woul burn out fast

This just gave me a great idea for a mod.... Real headlights!! (sorta)
use a reamer or other tool to cut holes on both sides of the front bumper or lower hood, wire 2 or 3 super bright white LEDs into a bundle and mount it on the front of the chassis in place with the hole, repeat steps for the other side... You could also rig a mid switch to cut and connect the wires to turn the lights on and off... There ya go, night time driving couldn't be simpler and LEDs don't take up much juice
If anyone else has thought of this already and posted it, my bad for the repeat

They shouldn't get that hot if you run them on a 9v or tap the 7.2v from your main battery pack (if your buggy is electric).
If you have a 3 channel radio, you can run 'em on channel 3 and use the button on your tx to turn them on/off. You just need a plug to run 'em into your rx.

rcu **** out the ebay address - just replace the **** in the link with e b a y . c o m and you'll be there.
I don't know what to tell you about the particular seller's reputation - their feedback is good. From what the listing shows, you get the two led's and a pair of sockets. It talks about running off of the main battery pack or receiver pack, but doesn't say how or if any connectors or instructions are included. If you're getting 2 led's and 2 sockets, you can get those at radio shack for 1/2 the price.
Your best bet may be to email the seller and ask for more details or if they offer wiring kits for them. There are some sellers on eBay selling totally wired kits that should be a snap to install.

When I had headlights on my electic buggy I just stuck them to the shock tower. But I dont where youd put tail-lights at, maybe on the rear shock tower but the wing will probobly hide them.
As for how to do it.
Just go to radio shack and pick up the following items.

Youll also need some wire, if you dont have any then [link=http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CT LG%5F011%5F010%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=278%2D1221]get this[/link].
If you decide to make your own light setup, let me know and ill tell you how to wire it all up.

I wouldnt try using plexiglass for a chasis, I tried making a shock tower from it and it broke within 2 minutes, its just too brittle. Ive seen chasis made from thick lexan though, maybe you can find a sheet of it somewhere.
Anyways, heres a (badly drawn LOL) schematic.

I tried this on my mt2 with pretty good results... If you follow jakjr diagram you shouldn't have any problems... If you want to see in the dark.. Get the brightest led lights from radio shack that you can.. I did this and yes you can drive in the dark... You must get the reflectors for this to work... range of about 5-6 feet... good for parking lot not woods..... I also got the blinking led tail lights.. they look great... As for your question about heat... Not an issue at all....and the 9v batterty has lasted all summer so far....

Alright guys. Thanks for all the great ideas
I think that im going to try radioshack and see if i can find what i need. As for keeping the lights in place, how to i fasten them in the holes i cut in the body or to the front shock tower without them falling off??
Also, what are the reflectors that were mentioned. Would these come with a light kit specially made for rc so that i don't have to buy them myself?

find someone at radio shack that has a clue... The reflectors are in the same bins as the lights... They may call them holders or something like that... They will protect the bulb and give you something to mount with... They go thru the body and screw in from behind... I used shoe goo to keep them from moving around and getting loose... Still in the truck after a summer of heavy bashing.

The reflectors are kind of like a miniature light socket for led's. You mount those on your body as described above, then the led's fit in the reflector. Nice clean install and they focus all the light forward.

Ok, im going with some LED's and the reflectors but im not sure which color to get. (pretty dumb huh?) Will i get more light potentential and brightness out of the white LED's or are the blue ones that lokk great just as bright. Sry abou tthe dumb questions

I have the brightest white ones they sold,, I tried blue but they were a little weaker... Please remember this...Due to the very small size of the led's.. You most likely won't be able to see too far in front of you.. maybe a few feet, so don't worry too much about white or blue.. the main thing is it looks great when you run your car/truck in the dark.... It's pretty cool when the truck comes towards you and you are blinded by the headlights... and when it passes you see the red tailights........

How about real incadecent lights. Buy a couple cheap fake mini mag lites and use the reflectors and bulbs. For power use a singe CR-123A battery. They are 3 volts, light, and last a long time.
Of course LEDs have a more cool factor and won't run down as fast.
Give this site a look for some lighting ideas.

If you want SUPER bright LED's you wont find them at radioshack. I bought some blue ones at fry's eelctronics and them things just about blind you when you look at them. When on the car they shined about 10-15 feet in front of it! It was litteraly like have two full sized mag-lights strapped to the front of it.
From radioshack the white ones probobly the brightest, I bought some of their blue ones and wasnt impressed, they looked purple for one thing, and were quite dim.
Alos, you can make LED's brighter by reducing the resistance of the resistor used with one, for instance 470ohm is the standard resistance used with an LED, but if you go down to say 220ohm the LED will be a bit brighter, dont go down too far though as it will eventually burn up the LED.
