Hi, Ive decided to build my own dragster, Im not going to make it as fast as the real ones cause I dont have thousands to spend. Ive been picking out radio gear and engines but i need to figure out how to get a transmission into it. Do you think i could use a transmission off of another car? like the jato tranny? Ive been looking all over tower and they dont sell full trannys. I dunno if that would even work or if i would have to build my own? Any help would be good. Thanks

the jato tranny sounds like it would work. try looking on other sites... http://www.hobbypeople.net http://www.stormerhobbies.com they might have one.
try to find a pretty small tranny, and you might have to make your own mounts or something.
P.S.- Post pics and a vid when your done

I would try something more simple. If you have any tooling experience it would be very simple to build your own direct drive system. Use a solid rod as an axle and mount the spur gear to it which mates with the clutch bell. This type of setup will usually be fastest since there is hardly any rotating mass and is also very cheap to put together.

If you're building a dragster you will want a direct drive setup just like you'd see in an onroad pan car. I don't know the exact gearing but i'm pretty sure that tranny is geared all wrong for what you are looking to build. Try looking up a couple of purpose built drag cars and see what gearing they are using. More times that not you'll find that they are using nothing more than a pinion and spur gear directly fromt the motor to the axle.

most rc dragsters that ive seen are direct drive axles, similar to those used in the bolink legends. If you want a two speed enclosed tranny why not just make your own enclosure? I used to build pro race cars (full scale), can you give a little more info on your design as far as inline or side mounted engine, club racing or just show type bashing, distance to be raced, engine size. what about a setup similar to the tc3 from associated.

Well ive decided to put off the dragster project for a while cause i dont have much $ and it would be really hard. plus i would need a mig welder and i have an arc.
