Default RE: Tuning

Check the idle gap. It should be about 1mm or the thickness of a credit card with the air filter off turn on the radio and observe the slide inside the carb.... make sure it opens fully and returns to idle position, apply the brakes.... make sure when the brakes are applied the carb does not close further, or you will be chasing the tune. If everything seems ok check with the manufacturer for base settings on the carb (how many turns out on high speed needle and low speed needle) start it up, adjust the high speed needle first watching for performance and a smoke trail check the temps occasionally you want to get to where you don't see any more performance leaning it out and still see smoke! then richen it like 1\12- 1\8 turn you should be near optimal at this point on the HSN or high speed needle. Then adjust the LSN two methods here, pinch the fuel line and listen to the engine if it dies instantly.... it's too lean. If it takes more than a couple seconds around 10 or more it is too rich, it should rev up and die. You can also adjust the low speed by running it, bring it in let it idle for say 5-8 seconds then give it throttle if it bogs down then takes off it is too rich. Once your HSN ans LSN are set adjust the idle, just enough to keep it running.... the car should not lurch or jump forward.

Just a quickie, if another member would like to jump in......
