Yeah I just picked one up too.. I've been reading and reading. I've still gotten no where. I'm not sure of when my engine cuts off, and if it's to lean or rich. I'm such a noob but then I somewhat understand how the carb works. I just dont understand how each needle interacts with each other. I really need someone to sit down with me and educate me.

Let me try to heelp. After break in, the engine loosens up and sometimes either idles too high or too low. There are three needles.

*First, the idle needle, this is the one located under the air filter foam element. It is unlikley ever touched. It should be set to factory, the flat blade screwdriver slot should be horizontal with the car body.
*Second is the low speed needle, located at the bottom of the carb body facing out, this screw head should be "flush" with the carb body. Good way to test this is to put the car on a box or stand so the wheels are off the ground. Once started, set the screw so the car idles and stays running without the wheels turning. Turn to the left is a slower idle, turn to the right is a faster idle. This also affects off line power.
*Third is the high speed needle, the one facing up on the carb. With the car off, turn it all the way in to "close" position, from there, turn it out 3 turns, this is the factory setting. Start the car, you should be runnning it about two to two and a quarter turns out from closed position. You will adjust this needle to richen or lean the car.

If the car is stalling out, try turning the high speed in a little bit clockwise to lean it out. Depending alot on the hot or coldness of your glow plug, keep the car between 185 and 240 degrees running. Hope this helped a little.

Ok, well I've gotten that far into the carb but still having trouble. I've bought an OS .18 CV-RX motor in replacement of the stock one. just so I can get that going but I am still interested in fixing my stock one. The last time I remember is that I had trouble trying to keep the motor at a steady idle. I think I may have over heated it or something. What it would do is start up and bog completely. I tried trimming the idle so that it would stay running but all it seems to do is bog and die.. I tried setting the motor back to factory settings thinking it would be a good idea but that didn't seem to help.

I'll set this to notify me so that I can check back. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the delayed reply.

This car was my first nitro too. It's a great bashing car and I got some help from HPI Headquarters down the street. If you are new to RC you got tinker with the car and try out the needle settings.

AzNPULSE...
there was nothing wrong with the stock engine, you just have to learn to tune, so there was no reason for buying a new engine since the stock one "wouldnt run right" do a search on tuning first and learn how to before you jump to conlusions, im trying not to flame people but i hate it when noobs that dont know how to tune say there is something wrong with their engine because it just wont run right, now yes the os is easy to tune, but there was nothing wrong with the stock one, it just sounds like you were running rich

Blah, I'm complete noob and I felt the need to buy a new one just so I can get to play with the car. You see, I've had this car for about a month and never got a chance to take it for a spin. Once I had this car out on the road with the new motor. I was addicted.. *drool* I might consider building one so I can use the stock engine. I'm sure your right hpi apollo. If you think I deserve a flaming then go ahead.

im not saying you deserve the flaming, im just saying it gets old when noobs dont ask (or better yet search) how to tune and just automatically think their engine has a problem when it just wont run right because they cant tune, my stock engine fires up with the same ease as my OS does, so its not that hard, and you will find out that one car is alot of money, 2 is worse

I'm all of a sudden afraid to start another one. [] Although I'm starting to get used to the tuning on this OS engine. I read up on possible issues that may happen to me. So far I've been able to cure all of them. I will utilize this forum as much as possible before I post something like that again.

PS: I saw your RS4 RSX. That's a really nice car.

that rsx is not such a nice car anymore, it slammed into a concrete island at a parking lot today going at least 25mph+, bent the chassis, ripped the batts outta the radio box, gouged my good rsx body and cracked it in several places, worst of all.......i wasnt even driving, my dad decided he could ahndle the power and speed, went wot and turned, i screamed NO! STOP! BRAKE! and he didnt do anything but hit the throttle, then it slammed into it and he said "well i didnt know it was going to do that, where is the brake"

AAARG! crash totals up to $44, he is paying it all
