hi i just brought a 2nd hand mugen mtx3. i had to change a few bits ie rear and front belt so i have had the car in bits and i came across a few sherred (where you cant the the alllen key to lock)screws.i didnt like the look of that so thought i will get a complete set of screws, take the thing to bits and rebuild it.also learning about the car at the same time and having done that be happy in the knowledge that if i need to strip it down to fix some thing i would not have a prob.
so i order the titanium screw set A and B from the parts list thinking may aswell get the best ( fing£40 ).should be coming tomorrow.
BUT yesterday i was in my lhs and was tell the guy there my plans and he said its not a good idea to use titanium screws!!!!!
1 they are brittle and easy to snap if you tighten a bit too hard, which scares the life out of me as having a screw broken off in your car i would think is not good..
2 they are not really stronger than the steel screw because titanium is only stronger by weight meaning if you had the same weight screw in both, the titanium would be stronger but as they are lighter the comperable strength is lost..
3 they are used for lightness not strength...
i want strength, dont care about the weight just want a reliable car.
so please advice me as iam scared to use the new screw set i have ordered and would like some real world comments on these screws.
has any1 ever snapped a titanium screw over tightening????
wats my best bet for strength steel or titanium???
thanks for you time ,but please reply asap cause i wanna go run the car but dont know what to do now.

As far as i know titanium is stronger than steel. i have installed a titanium screw kit on my mugen mrx-4 about 2 years ago, ive never broken a screw on it, while tightening or otherwise.
