Howdy all...
Need to know what you think
I was playing with my car today and suddenly it cuts out. I bring it back over, check it over then go to restart it. I realise as i pull the pullstart the weels start turning. This never happens when i go to start it. I then realise then if i try to roll it across the ground it stops. the wheels stick... I am thinking that i perhapse bent one of the things responsible in linking the motor to the wheels... however i am not really sure what to look for
Now that i think if it i prolly should not have been as hard on it as i was since its new...
It was running on grass and i was doing figure-8's i try to keep it close to me til i get the fail-safe thing so it doesnt go rogue. I would go around a turn then accelorate then slow down and accelorate again. Grass isnt all that smoothe and with it being more or less new it might have been too much stress. But i am new to RC in this manner so thats why i am asking here
Have i broken something?

What kind of car? Some cannot run in the grass, because you can overheat the clutch and the clutch shoes will melt into the clutch bell.
Tell us: car, engine, etc.
The clutch is inside the round cup/bell shaped thing with the gear on it that comes out from the engine shaft. The clutch allows the engine to run without the wheels moving. Once revving strong, the clutch kicks out and catches the clutch bell, and power run thru the tranny/gears/shafts and moves the car.
When there is alot of drag from grass, or you have an obstacle you force/power through it, some weaker clutches melt and bind the bell. Bigger vehicles with heavy clutches and ample power/grip/clearance can run in grass w/out melting the clutch, but even they can have melted or shortened clutches if abused.

Its a monster truck... I was told its an "aftermodel t-maxx" its got the 1.5 engine... I am new to al if this so thats why i ask silly questions :P
when i turn the spur gear it doesnt allow me to turn it completely around without having to really try hard to move it. I think something is actually Beny... Might be the clutch but as i said.. i am new and dont know that much

ha did exactly the same thing with my freinds car. i melted the clutch shoes so much we had to use a hammer and chisel to remove them.
the resistance is probably the engine turning over and compressing. can you hear it do that?

yep thats just the engine turning over, does it get easier to turn after the puffing sound? if it does then its fine and all you will have to do is replace the clutch.

my father helped me out. he's a car wiz. he cleaned out the clitch... it was a bit fried but still useable for a small period of time. turns out though that i somehow also stripped one of the gears inside the gearbox. apparently its all ****ing PLASTIC in there so now that has to be replaced.
also finally i found my car on ebay being sold be a different seller
maybe this might help one of you

it's a smartech truck... their onroads are ok with a few upgrades from other more known manufacturers. but when getting an offroad vehicle you are better off going brand name. you can't go with cheap parts with offroad. you need the strength and durability.
Sounds like you stripped the tranny.. and the replacment tranny will not be any better and you will probably strip that also. if you dad has access to a machine shop he can make you alloy spur gears. or if you are really good at fixing things HPI main gear 44T will fit into the one speed tranny.
keep in mind i'm basing this on the onroad cars which share the same parts with the offroad buggies. if your truck shares the same tranny with the onroad cars and buggies then the HPI part will fit.

are you sure its a smarttech?
if so how do i order replacements?
also there are 2 things that i am not sure of...
one is i dont know if the gearbox was even greased. i know *I* didnt put any in so that might have caused it
also i did run it on grass for a good 20 mins right after breaking it in.. doing figure 8's.
imma see if i can get ahold of smarttech.
update-**
how the hell can i get ahold of them? cant find a number anywhere...

I did a bit of research for you, turns out the truck does not share parts with the cars and buggies so scratch what I said about the HPI 44T spur gear.... it's a smartech magic wheel clone truck.. it's a clone of a smartech but the parts are all the same.
Wether you broke in with 1 tank or 8 tanks the tranny would have stripped... these low end RC's are not suited for the demands of offroad. with these RC's gear mesh is critical because the parts are not as strong.. The mesh between the bell and spurs may not have been correct either.
you can get parts here since you are in NY. they do take paypal.

your trucks parts are listed here just look up the gear you need

Its only got a 2 shoe clutch, if you dont wanna wreck it again (at least not quickly) get yourself a nice 3 shoe clutch. Not sure what to do about your gearbox...........

problem is i cant find any sort of information about the clutch.
Alsi i learned thtat when it was assembeled its missing a bearing inside the transmission. the gear isnt stripped.
i need help now finding the correct clutch assembely. i cant find an actual model number or anything i can run down to my local hobbie shop with and say "hey, this si what i need!"
help would be most good. thanks

Here's a PDF file with a full listing of T-Maxx .15 Pro parts.
http://www.traxxas.com/products/nitr...15%20Parts.pdf
The clutch from the T-Maxx .15 Pro might work.
Also, there are some Magic Wheel clutch parts here.

I think you're better off getting a new truck, such as the HPI Savage. HPI is a reputable brand and their trucks are of very good quality. Not one part has broken on either my two Savages since I got them about 6 months ago. Maintenance and spare parts are very easy to get, and nearly all hobby shops stock them.
Your Smartech will keep on breaking. If you break parts on grass, how do you think it will hold up when you start jumping it and doing backflips?

yes, normally when its been dormant for a month its dead....
and the reason people buy these cheap copies of trucks is because they normally can't afford the real deal so a savage is probably out of the equation
