Default Fine Design

After the last year of building my Gorillamaxx (and having a lot of fun with it) I am hooked on brushless power. I miss the out right speed of nitro... until now.

My buddy Jason gets into BL power and builds a brushless LSP. I am blown away by the 1500w BL running 4s lipo (I think thats what he is running). His electric truggy is unreal.

So I decide to go all out as well and try something new. I put my Gorilla-maxx up for sale (in the RCU classifieds!) and start looking for my next project. I hear about the HPI Baja 5B and Jason hands me a few mags with articles on them.

Thats when I stumble onto the article about Fine Design and their crazy BL/Lipo converted buggy. I checked out their website ( http://www.finedesignrc.com ) and WOW!!!! Pre built BL/Lipo Monster trucks, Truggy's, buggies and more. And they are selling NEW kits RTR cheaper than Jason spent building his LSP. Can this be too good to be true? Anyone have any experience with their kits?

Yes I searched "Fine Design brushless" and got 20 pages of results but I couldn't find anything specific to what I am looking for. Since I cant decide on Truggy or Monster truck I figured this would be the best area to ask.

Thanks,
Steven

How well are they converted? Do they have problems with the converted clutch bell staying on the BL motor etc. You know things owners would have knowledge of....problems, quirks etc.

Thanks,
Steven

Of course Chris is going to tell me what I would expect to hear.

So no actuall owners have ANY problems with the conversions? I am impressed.

In a recent issue of rcca they did a review. It was EXTREMLY awesome. I dont recall them having issues with anything. Its a awesome design. They tested the lst2 conversion.

If you want a slam on Fine Designs then I can say that I hate the battery holder. It should be so much better. I know that Chris can fix this but he likes it it seems. Other than that he is starting with a very good buggy and building from that. The process he is fairly well thought out. There are things that I do diferent then Chris but overall his stuff is top notch. I think my motor mount is much better and I like my battery layout. But I do not make RTR cars He dose and he dose a great job. If you are having concerns about the qulity then fear not Chris stands behind everything quite well

Thanks guys, thats the kind of information I was looking for. 1k is a lot to spend on a R/C only to find it wasnt converted properly or have little customer service. I am glad to find thats not the case.

I was curious about the battery box using rubber o-rings. I might look into some type of cover to protect the battery/secure it better. I cant decide on what model to choose but I am leaning toward the CEN monster truck or the LSP.

Chris Fine is a legit guy. Ive done business with him many times. I work in the RC industry and have had many professional and consumer transactions with him. He is honest and a VERY, VERY hard working guy who really wants to make this BRUSHLESS 8th scale scene mainstream. Check out his website.
