hi all hahaha heres my 2 cents use any kind of oil you want to its your motor i use after run and wd40 all so( birchwood casy sheath oil<<works good for guns fishing reels and electric motors realy stops rust) dry tank and fuel lines is a must do [sm=wink_smile.gif]

I was told if I used Sidewinder fuel I wouldn't need after run oil. (I bought the after run oil anyway and I'm glad I did. I have two cars with pullstarts and I put the after run oil in one, the other one I left dry both had been run) I pulled the pull start on the oiled car it moves a lot more freely than the other one does. I put the oil into the other car and it now pulls as freely too. Oil will evaporate too. I regularly say once a month will pull the pullstart a few times to get the oil disrributed again and add oil if needed. Not sure if it has any big impact, but I don't want the metal getting oxidized. (I live in Arizona so it is much less a problem than those of you that live in high humidity/ocean air areas around the world)

I usually use ATF oil after I've raced or practiced just out of habit. Last time I drove was back in end of October and that time I thought I'd just try NOT using it and just run the tank dry and leave it.

Well I opened up the engine last weekend and it looked perfect. No rust, not gummed up... nothing. I was using 20% Red Alert.


I will still continue to take care of my engines and use oil even if all was good this time.

SO what is the conclusion here?

Im new to nitro and ran my RC10GT a few times since got it used off ebay and haven't put anything in the motor YET, (who knows if he used after-run or not) but I am not a 'noob' to bigger scale engines.

Here's a quick list of things people have mentioned (as an alternative to After-Run Oil).. correct it if I am wrong so it can help the nitro noobs or anyone for that matter.

WD40 - Use only if you find it works, otherwise use at your own risk
ATF - Select few use it and claim it works
Air Tool Oil - Smells like after-run, looks like after-run...
Amsoil Fog Spray - One claims it works great
Marvel Mystery Oil - A few use it

Other Oils and Lubricants for 2 cycle engines can be considered I assume. I remember doing a science project on normal oil vs synthetic oil in grade school and came up to the conclusion the protection was the same.

Sooo what we have here is a list of various lubricants that CAN be used. The only lubricant that can be debated and some have denied it's usage is WD40. Basically any oil or lubricant that can be used in a 2 cycle engine would work, correct? Because the "smaller" scale versions of their big brothers use the same internal materials BUT use different fuel which is the MAIN concern.

I'm confusing myself if it helps......
