a few things could be going on, your slipper cliutch could be to loose, carb settings are off, or if you changed your spur gear and or clutch bell you'll need to readjust your tranny. see if any of that helps good luck

Not wanting to teach you to suck eggs but have to turned the 'gear changing scew'? Turn it anti-clockwise and it will change a little earlier. If you still have probs then it could be some thing else as gamesbeer says.

yea im having the same problem and I have turn that gear screw counter-clockwise and its still not doing anything. I can hear it go up to maximum rpms in 1st and it sounds like it wants to go to 2nd so bad.

The main reason why a new truck will not shift gears is because the engine is not yet fully broken in.
Return your shift screws back to the factory stock position (if you messed with them) and continue to run your truck until you hit about the 8th or tenth tank. Then tune for performance. The engine should scream under load when (i.e when you are driving it and running with the trigger at full pull). The engine should not stall at fll trigger pull. If it blubbers (makes a sound like "Wub Wub Wub!"), it is not fully broken in yet or you have the engine running way too lean.
With a fully broken enine running at full trigger down the street, you should hear a distinct engine noise pitch change when it shifts gears. If the engine does not reach a certain RPM, the gears will not shift.

It's likely too rich. When that's the case, it won't shift into 2nd. The engine needs to hit a certain rpm for the trans to shift....being too rich won't let the engine rev as high as it needs to.

hey man, just change everything back to factory until you have run a good 5 tanks, then lean out the HSN 1/8th clockwise at a time, that is how i fixed mine
