I am bran new at this stuff. every one keeps telling me to go electric for the first one but what is like the diff in them besides the engines i mean like performance wise. will the electric one go just as fast or what. and if the gas one does faster like how much faster does it go. and i am talking about all stock stuff. lets say its the same car/truck just one is electric and one is nitro.

It sounds like you already know what you want! If you go Nitro for the first, make sure that you have the support of a Local Hobby Shop (LHS). They can be a great help in teaching you how to tune the engine. Make shure they will do this up front, but do not expect any free help from them unless you got it from them.
As for performance? They can be made to go the same speeds, but the Nitro has a longer run-time, and you don't have to buy multiple battery packs. A stock electric RC truck, with a stock motor, should go slower than a Nitro truck, but there are many factors that come into play. There may not be a right answer to this one.

Performance-wise, both can be made ridiculously fast, but electric has superior acceleration.
There is no 'same' truck, you're really comparing apples and oranges, it depends on engine / motor size and gears (nitro) or battery (electric) and many other variables. But recently most of the people who still use nitro are not using it so much for the speed or performance, more for 'the noise', 'the smell', or other aesthetic reasons.

nitro is more work. electric is easy. thats why its a good intro to the hobby. you can go as fast as you like with both nitro and electric. just a personal choice. most rc'ers own both. both are fun. imo.

if you compare say the firestorm flux vs the nitro then the flux should have better performance. electrics are higher up front cost due to the batteries but that evens out over time because the cost of nitro is so high right now.
Neither is better, some prefer one over the other for their own reasons. A lot have both, like me, and run both for different reasons.
With battery technology the way it is right now it's possible to get longer runs on a battery than a standard nitro, a 10,000 mah lipo will run for 45min (even if it does cost $200)

Electric is more of an upfront cost, but Nitro costs forever!!! The thing with electric is they're actually faster if you get a good Brushless setup, but nitro is a LOT of fun. Nitro, however, has been having shortages, which I think are over, but you never know when it might happen again. With electric, you spend a lot of money up front on batteries and a good charger. Although, once you've spent that money you don't have to spend any $ for a couple of years. With Nitro you spend money on the vehicle, but you need to buy nitro constantly, which is at $30+ a gallon!!!![X(] Nitro is a lot of fun, but it keeps getting more and more expensive(When I got my first nitro it was $12 a gallon). Don't expect nitro to go down with gas prices either, as it is a totally different form of fuel that not a lot of people make. For a while their it was hard to get nitro. Also, keep in mind that nitro is made from alcohol, that's why it won't go down with gas prices. The way things are going, people are getting into Ethanol and Methanol, even though it's a less efficient form of powering a vehicle, so the supplies will go to 1:1 cars before they go to RC cars. I'm a 1:1 car guy and I'm deep in the industry, trust me, nitro will only get more expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"chicks dig the nitro"
seriously how many girls are into RC now. I think we have one mod here and that's it. It's like the old racing or crawling club jokes "I'm here for the girls" ... yeah right.

Lol chicks dont dig nitro's, chicks go "why would you spend that much money on a toy".
Mate ive just got into the hobby myself after buying a HPI e10 electric. (yeh i know people dont like them but i got this to get into it). I went electric to see how i enjoyed it and always planned to step up to nitro. Now after having electric for 3 weeks im already looking at which nitro car to buy.
Im into modding/working on 1:1 cars and i love driving, so going to a nitro was always going to be the most fun for me. Its more like my 1:1 car.
Good luck with whatever you decide, you wont be dissapointed with either

I personally like electric better. This is because nitro can be a pain some times with all the labor and after-run maintenance. It all depends on what you like better too. I mean there are some pretty fast electric rc car's out there. Well, whatever you decide, have fun with it.

imo the choice can only be made by you answering this one question:
Are you getting into it because you just want to run them,
Or are you just as into tinkering with it as you are running it?
If you just wanna run them then go electric,
If you enjoy breaking things down and rebuilding them then go nitro
(electric requires breaking down & rebuilding to, Just not as much)
But thats just my opinion,
Either way your gonna have fun

Alot of good info , pros and cons , and comparisions here. I say nitro is cool for the noise and smell. electric is cool because it is easier, quieter, and definatly cleaner. In either case Speed is directly proportional to the depth of you pockets , the thickness of your wallet, or the number of "swipe here" that you have on the credit/debit card

good obsevation AERO , LOL!! I had not noticed the date of the original inquiry. My previously post still applies I think:

I also wonder if he still has the need to know?!!!
