Default How do you get the wheels straight?

I changed the suspension setup on my car over what it was stock. I changed out the front casters from 6 degree to 4 degree. Changed the camber link and adjusted the shock mounts for higher traction surfaces which is what I run on (asphalt).
How do you guys get the front wheels lined up straight with the rear wheels? I mean do you just eye it and get it as close as you can or is ther a tool or something I should know about? Thanks in advance.
Thanks

by straight do you mean having no toe in or toe out, or do you mean have no camber?

i think he means toe. i just lay a ruler across the front and rear tires and adjust it until they are flat on the ruler.(hope you understand that)

ummm....well I mean so that the front tires are not like this // \\ or like this \\ // when looking at the car from above, but rather like this ll ll. This would obviously slow the card down cause its fighting the front tires. Am is just supposed to eye it? Cause it seems pretty hard to eye it, theres gotta be a better way.

I kinda tried the ruler thing but the front tires stick out farther than the back. Offset.

Also does anybody know what the heck this is for? It came with the RTR package and its not mentioned in the manual or in the parts list.

the best thing i can say is to just eyeball it. are you racing or just bashing? if you are just bashing then it doesnt have to be exact.

Well, you do realzie that you rarely wanna run with no toe. Right? Toe-in provides better stability at speed, while toe out provides better turn-in. It alld epends on your car, your track, and your driving style. Im not 1005 about the thing in the picture, but im preatty saure people put it on their radio ro somthing like that. All cars come with them, nobody ever uses it.

Yes, you're wheels should normally be toed out, unless you're drag racing, then you'd want to toe in. Imagine looking at the car from above, with the front facing toward the top of the screen, you want your wheels like this... \\ // Just a little obviously, but by running them parallel you'll lose a lot of cornering. Anyway, this setting is normally adjusted by turning turnbuckles on the steering tie rods.

The thing in the picture is a 27mhz band frequency indicator. There are only a few distinct frequencies on 27mhz am, so they gave them colours for easy display, you clip it to the end of the antenna on your transmitter and it shows everyone what frequency you're using. Pretty redundant in this day and age.

You sipmly measure the dstances. There is also a special designed table with measurments on it so you car adjust everything with 0.1mm accuracy.

A level? How could a level possibly work on an offset? LOL

Doing it with a ruler is near impossible. If it works for him, great, but I don't think I could do it. You need either calipers or some set up tools (Hudy set up blocks are very good). Itghink that's what GYNAIKAS means when he says a 'specially designed table'. It's basically a board with measurements on it, then you attach these special blocks to each hub (without the wheels on), and it tells you all the angles, so you can see exactly what you're adjusting. They aren't cheap but they are damn useful, and you only have to buy them once.

RPM also sells a toe gauge. You can find it at Tower. I normally run my vehicles with toe in // \\. I only run my 1/8th buggies with toe out \\ //. And everyone is correct about the Freq Flag that you posted the pic of. You really only see extremely new noobs using them.
