RE: brushles
There are two catagories of electric motor.
One type uses brushes to deliver electric current to the rotor. The resultant electrical field turns the rotor inside a set of permenant magnets. Most motors today are of this type. Brushed obviously.
Brushless motors have a permanent magnet for a rotor, with and inteligent ESC delivering current to field coils (stator). The advantage is that there is no mechanical contact between the rotor and rest of the motor exept for the bearings that the rotor turns in. Fewer moving parts = less mechanical wear. Less rotational mass etc etc. The advantages are legion. These systems ARE comming down in price very nicely, but the are still a lot more expensive than brushed systems.

Well, Brushless Systems deliver a lot more power than the average Brushed system. So yes, they normally use more power.
Overall they have much higher requirements than the average brushed system. Mamba Max Brushless systems claim up to 2000Watts of power on burst. That is about 2.5 HP.

RE: brushles
actually on a like for like basis, a brushless motor is more efficient so it will run slightly longer..
i have two Mamba's (4600/5700) and a Novak 4.5 GTB, the Mamba's are awesome for the price (180$) and are so tunable.

[X(]is there a way to make it faster without having to tinker to much with the motor?
