RE: begginer
There's a really nice one for $-4 but that is out of your price range. Box stock RTR's will all do around 20ish mph or less. After that it will all depend on motor, gearing, and number of cells you run.

Get something like this- http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRSV1&P=0
Then save a little more money and buy a better/faster motor and ESC.

RE: begginer
i have been racing for many years (since i was 9) and it has taken all this time to fially say i know what i am doing with the very quick cars, i race an exray t1r with a custom built motor from a dealer in the uk who re balances them, polishes the shims and fiddles, i high torque servo from cirrus, an mrt pro speed controller, 4200 batteries again from demon racing products, several sets of racing compound tyres and a vantage esprit radio. all this added up comes close to 500 pounds (around 850 dollars) in the uk, so if it for just messing around i would not recommend going with the expensive kit. you could get a rtr tamiya or a hot bodies minizilla (a 1/18th truck), if you wanted to get strated in the hobby cheaply the a rtr associated tc4 or a hpi would be quick for a while but will get boring quickly.
my car will hit aroung 30mph and it is electric!
if you want that sort of speed cheap i sujest a cheap nitro car but i do not really know about them so if anyone else does please inform!
