Hi, I was running my car just a little while ago and it was running fine but after maybe 2 tanks it started having problems holding an idle and it was going considerably slower then it was. I had to keep riching the mixture too, that is normal to a point but I was at 4 1/2 turns out, which the recommended was 3. And there still wasn't that much smoke coming out. After the 3rd or 4th tank it started going very slow, it took about 5 or 6 seconds to get into second gear opposed to maybe 1-2 seconds. Could this be because the engine is getting too hot? I have only run the engine though 1/2 gallon and I have taken great care of the engine. Clean fuel/air filter, never run too lean, etc. So I don't think its the piston and sleeve. The engine I have is the HPI 12R SS I got with my SS kit.
Thanks for any help,
Kyle.

I don't have a temp gauge. It didn't seem too hot (I could hold my hand on the heatsink for over a second without it hurting. It don't think it was above boiling or if it was not much. That was just the heatsink htough. It wasn't that could either, maybe like 38-40.

Did you richen it because it was running too hot? What temp are you running? If you performance is suffering and you don't see any smoke, you could just be running too rich.

I was running it richer because there was very little smoke. my friend had the same car and it was running with about 3x more smoke than me. It was running about the same speed. Another thing is after it shifts it gains a bit of revs and then it starts losing revs and the smoke starts to dissapear.

You need to invest in a good temp gun, your basically in the dark until you get one.
Spitting on the head, throwing water on it and watching it evaporate tells me nothing. This method is just reaching out in the dark.
Temp gauge gives you a number, something that is real you can use to relate your tuning to. No guess work here, point, pull the trigger and its all over.

My suggestion would be to set everything back to the factory settings and start over. Also, remember that the recommended setting are just that, "recommended". Not that you should disregard it, just that what ever your friend's setting are may not be that same for you.

you are running the car to rich. if it shifts then bogs it means your high speed is set to lean. try takign your needle all the way out and check the needle body threads aswell as the needle threads. when you tune it does it respond or does it just keep doing the same thing?

is hyour carb coming loose or the high speed needle where the fuel connects...i just got my xxx-nt and hadnt put anyt5hing to keep the carb from coming loose and i hit a jump and it started running real high and then it bogged down and stalled...also u mightwant to check make sure everythings ok in your engine...nothing has too much friction, loose parts, etc.
