Default Where to read temp.

Hello guys,
I just got a HPI MT2, and I'm doing the best to tune it.
When reading the Temp. of the motor where should I point the meter:
At the engine, plug, etc?????

Thanks

If you are supposed to take the glow plug temp what is the purpose of those temp gauges that wrap around the cooling head? Wouldnt that be inaccurate?

I believe the head right around the glow plug is the hottest part. RCCA mag says to read it right next to the glow plug from the top.

Their purpose is convience and yes, IMO, they give a less than accurate idea of how the engine is performing. Not that the guage is necessarly reading incorrectly it's just not reading the temp from the optimum location. Anytime you take a temp reading from an area that's meant to dissapate heat it will, by definition, be cooler than the area it's disapating heat from.

you have to adjust it

if your on board temp reading is different than your hand held, move the lead up to the next fin if it's says it's hotter, and move it down a lead if it's colder.

you can't just throw it on and hope it correct

Just measure the temperature of the glow plug, measure the temperature of the lower end of the cooling head, write down the difference and remember it. Add it on when reading the temp from lower end of cooling head... Depends on your standards, but its probably not even going to be that different.
cheers
