I need help from all you car guys out there. I know nothing about them. I fly AP planes and I'm going to make an FPV plane but first I'm going to make a car for FPV to practice on. I'm in my 60's so I don't have the reflexes of a young man any more so I'll practice getting use the goggles on the ground with a car, that way I won't panic in the air and crash. A friend of mine brought me two hummers he got out of a dumpster and they are pretty big. No transmitters. I took the body off and it has a printed circuit board. No sign of an esc like I'm use too. So, this is a cheap (probably walmart) car. I hooked a battery up to the motor and they run fine. Also I put power to the steering servo and it works in both directions. How do I find out what frequency it is and how can a guy get a transmitter for one of these cheap cars? Also, can you run 3 cell lipos in a cheap car. I'm sure it came with Nicads and probably 9 volts.

@quailbird, welcome to onroad.
Firstly thats a Toy Grade Car, what you'll hear from everyone is that we run Hobby Grade Cars.
The main differiences are that Hobby Grade is more durable, much better quality, upgradeable, tuneable, and more fun.
I would not recommend running a Lipo in a car like that, you probably should get a Hobby grade one and start off with that.
Post a pic of the circuit board if possible.
A lot of us here also run Nitro Powered, these run on Nitro Fuel, and are capable of insane speeds.
To check what frequency its running on, you might want to invest in a Frequency Checker, you can find them at Tower Hobbies.
And I dont think it is going to be easy to get a transmitter, presumebly a cheap one, but if you do, make sure the crystal you get corresponds with the reciever.
Hope I could be of some help.

Lol, yeah.
You really should invest in a proper rc car
If you plan to, head on over to the Truggy Fourms.
Truggies are like the best of both worlds, go anywhere capability and insane top speed and handling.
