Not really, Mambas run like 99.99 for the package now. You can get a sidewinder and that would be a little cheaper. You can get a good lipo for like 20 bucks and then if you dont have one already any lipo charger will do.

I can answer half your question.
According to Castle Creations website they have discontinued the Mamba Max for 1/18 scale. It is the sidewinder now, and they say on their site it is better and less expensive. They have a deal for the month of March 25% off. It is around $100 shipped. Lipo for it for it will be $45 for 2000mah 2s, or $65 2000mah 3s, $40 for Lipo charger/balancer, $10 for deans plugs. It is worth it the Mini T is awesome, but not as awesome as a Micro T, DT, or Baja. That will cost about $200 from what I heard, plus $50 for charger, $250 to be safe plus or minus some. But a RC car that fits in your palm and does 30-40mph? Priceless. For only $50 more then the Mini T you can have a car the size of mouse that runs like a cheetah.

a lot of misinformation floating around so far

there is a brushless setup for 1/36 from losi

the problem is that the ESC and receiver are in one part on the stock vehicle
to go brushless you have to buy the brushless motor/esc (about $50), a new receiver, and a new servo

That is the cheap option. If you buy the 1050kv motor, you buy the ESC separate so it cost a little more but it goes faster then motor/esc combo.
