Big newbie question here.
Im wondering how the clutch works in these cars. If someone could take the time to explain it to me id appreciate it.
Im wondering how it engages the bell. My clutch is in 2 parts, squeezed together with a springs, sitting on the flywheel inside the bell. When you apply throttle, how does it engage the bell ?
Sorry for the newbness. Thanks

They are called 'centrifugal clutches' because as the engine revs up, the centrifugal force exerted on the shoes increases and so they move out and engage with the bell. As the engine rpm drops the springs pull the shoes back in.
P.S. welcome to rcu!

Thanks, adam and Nitro Fumes. I figured thats how it worked, just cant imagine why\how the spinning would cause the clutch to expand and engage the bell. I'll look up centrifugal clutches.
Whats the advantage of having a 3 shoe clutch as opposed to 2 ?
My car likes to idle high, and it wants to race off unless I apply throttle\brake trim. This effects the way the driving characteristics because the car wont coast when I let off the throttle, instead the brakes come on and it stops. Any suggestions ?

I took your advice, adam. Richened the bottom end. Didnt do a darn thing to stop it trying to take off, but gave it a stronger, healthier sounding idle.
I want to try and tighten the spring, but I dont have a spare one on hand incase I make a mistake and ruin this one. I was just going to remove it, cut a few turns off, put it back on and re- twist the ends together.
Thats great though im glad I know how it all works now.
Anyone know what the advantage of a 3 shoe clutch is ?
