Well the first steps to setting up a track in my neck of the woods is done,
I e-mail recreation councelmember for middlesex, NJ about setting up a track in one of the parks.
This park has a control line field (planes on tethers) a street hocky rink, a few tennis courts, a bunch of soccer fields, basball diamond and even a didicated horseshoes field. so I figure if we squeeze into a corner nobody would mind.
I know a few of you have been waiting for this so I will keep you updated.
what I will be doing is forming a club to maintain the track. this means if you want to use the track you gotta help build it (well not really but I am not going to do it alone so if there is to be a track I need some help.
If this gets off the ground I will be running races/competitions not to mention "Bash Days" were its just set aside to have fun.
if I do get the OK I will figure out the dimensions of the area and post so everyone can give suggestions for the layout, as I have never designed a track by myself.
wish me luck

Cool, I sure wish someone in Colorado would build a track, I guess skate boards are the only things in colorado that the city spends millions of dollars to build recreation for.

hey keep me updated.
i too have tried to get a track built in one of the many parks we have in staten island.
the parks dept. has control of an old (WWII era) air stri[ that has been converted into like 10 soccer fields and like 4 baseball fields.
there is more than enough room for an off-road r/c track. the land is right on the beach and automobile activity is a non-issue, so it would be great.
i emailed the parks dept commish, but havent heard anything.
what kind of steps did you take so far so i can copy them and hope to get a track here in s.i. ?

you live in the area? when I hear back from this guy I will let you know and you can help out with the club.

I have been trying to decide if I want to run the club on a donation based system (ie we make a list of what we need and people then donate it instead of dues) or to have the dues and have to worry about keeping track of the money (something I never feel comfortable doing)
packfan
as for what I am doing for this so far I scouted out the land and e-mailed the coucel member in charge of recreation. if I dont hear from him in a week I will give him a call.
I hope to get into one of the councel meeting so I can talk to the councel in person and explain excatly what my plans are.

Finally got a response (sent a second e-mail to a diffrent address). The rep said that she will take it up in front of the town council on 6/9/03.
hopefully they will at least consider it and I might get an audience with the council.
I got my fingers crossed.
