Do I have to use after run oil or is there something I can substitute for it? I really wanted to run it tonight and not run to the hobby shop (25 miles away) first...

I read from TMaxx user manual to run it:
1/4 throttle for 2 sec... rest for 2 secs... rinse and repeat one tank
1/4 Throttle for 3 secs... rest for 3 secs... rinse and repeat one tank
1/2 Throttle for 2 secs... rest for 2 secs... rinse and repeat one tank
1/2 Throttle for 3 secs... rest for 3 secs... rinse and repeat one tank

Then run normal for 2 tanks but avoid WOT for long periods of time...

Seemed like a good plan...

You could Marvels Mystery Oil as an after run oil. Look for it at your local auto parts store

A little off topic, but when ever I refer to wally world, people from other parts of the country give me a quizzical look. It must be a NJ thing. I use MMO for after run, too. There is some debate over whether MMO or MMATO (marvel mystery air tool oil) is better, some use dexron atf and still others WD-40.....choose your poison.

Fire and brimstone, death and mayhem!!! Just kidding. I don't have the definitive answer for you, but I say start a thread for this question in the engines discussion forum. I'd like to know the answer myself. I don't know off-hand what the base of yamalube two-stroke lube is (some are castor, some synthetic), but I would guess it's prolly ok. The only real problem I can see is that it's designed to use with gasoline rather than methanol, and hence may not play nice with the left over fuel residue. I doubt it though.

Yeah, too much gummy stuff in there will foul glow plugs. And
that will get expensive.

Yamalube is a Semi Synthetic Oil Basicaly a synthetic blend...I know some people like to run ATV's (Banshee's In particular) on methanol but im not sure if they use special oil or not. I can ask someone over at Banshee HQ what they use I guess. Why not? Im stuck at work for 10 hours and there is nothign to do but brows the net on a Pentium 200 ! UGGG

What it does is protect the internals of your motor when
it is not in use.
Nitro fuel absorbs water and if you leave it in your motor
you are risking rust accumutalion. (bad) After run oil protects
the metal surfaces from rust.
Almost any oil could do that however, The rest of the trick
is that when you go to start you engine next time it burns
away clean without fouling your glowplug, And thats
something most oils can't do.

is it the nitro int he fuel or the methanol thats bad, I know when converting 2 strokes over to methanol your supposed to run gas through them after to prevent the whole rust deteraiation thing, so that is no shock that a Nitro RC is the same way.

As for work, I don't have to pretend, since school just got out the only thing I can do is sign peoples greencards when they come to the counter every hour or so.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the methanol is what attracts water and then forms rust...just look how quickly fuel craps out(even FAI fuel, no nitro) if you leave it open. I don't know if that last part made sense, but oh well. Justin, I was figuring you could ask the engine gurus if 2-stroke moto lube (syn. blend) works ok as after-run, that's all. I think shoehead nailed it. The most important function of an after run oil is to displace any water from the internals and form a protective coating. It's supernice when it burns off more or less cleanly too, so it doesn't foul the plug. After a bit of searching, it appears we're flagellating a deceased equine with the general after-run oil question, but I haven't turned anything up so far as to the appropriateness of motorcycle 2-cycle oil as after-run lube.
