NEVER START BUILDING A CRAWLER!!!! THEY ARE HUGE MONEY PITS!!!!
I bought a stock Wheely King last summer and took my sweet time working on it. This is the definition of an "on and off again" build. I actually built 2 rigs during this build. During the last 2 days its gotten a transmission, electronics, and a drive shaft. Just one drive shaft because the tranny outputs are 5mm and the diff inputs are 6mm. I brought the rear input down to 5mm today and did a bind test and everything is fine so Ill do the front tomorrow. I'm going to redo the chassis and skid plate sometime in the near future because the chassis is rough and the tranny mounting holes in the skid plate are shifted too far one way by a few mm's. Also need to add foams, weights, a body, electronics mounting plates, dig, new electronics (I'm thinking Sidewinder and castle BEC), play around with the shocks, bead locks, etc, etc, etc. I need to take some real pics soon.
I also did a 4x4 Rustler this summer. Originally I bought a Stampede with a Super Rooster used off E-bay because I knew I may want to do a 4x4 sometime and wanted an ESC that could handle two motors. Two years later I got around to it and bought a cheap Rustler, again off Ebay. The conversion itself was pretty simply and it performs very well with twin 19 turns. I need to drive it more. I think in total it has less than 5 runs on it [sm=red_smile.gif] Need to take some real finished pics of it too. Don't mind the little shiny things on the body posts, I made those to dimple bodies.

Pic below is a simple scouting robot, no vids of it yet.

I had planned to make it electric in the beginning, but then decided to take up the challenge of a nitro crawler (and you'll find much discussion on this rig in the crawler forum). Before I made the decision to leave it alone, I went back to the idea to use a large nitro engine to generate power and use an electric drive, kind of like a hybrid.
To answer your other question, yes. I did design and machine everything you see except the wheels and shocks. I am currently working on internally-sprung shocks to replace the aluminum units on the truck. I only wish to make them in order to keep the look fluid as it sits on the shelf. At this point I have no plans nor ambition to make it run.
Thanks for your interest.
