Default Break in

I have a question about breaking in an Engine. I just got my sh.28 engine in for my buggy a couple days ago and am getting anxious to break it in so i can get to running my car. My question is...Do i need a temp gauge/gun for break in process?? I have never broken in an engine so im curious as to what the best way is to do it. I read that temp gauges aren't a needed thing for break ins but they can definitely help with giving you engine temps so you dont over heat or run underheated. Im just wondering what i should do for my first time break in, because i'd hate to tear an engine up due to lack of experience with it.

you dont need to use a temp gun, you can do the spit method, lol....

Just put some spit on your finger and whipe the head, if it sizzles off, your too hot, if it sits there, your too cold, if it stays and evaporates in 5 seconds or so, your ok.

Make sure there is plenty of smoke and dont make your rpm's too high.

Sometimes, despite his extensive Knowledge, I think he forgets how hard it is for us Newbs to follow the Simplest instructions. Lol....
I PERSONALLY struggled with the Break in of my first .28 engine.. It was LOUD and Intimidating, and I was afraid I was gonna Mess something up....., but I eventually got the job Done with the Help of THIS forum..

I would suggest that you go get a Temp gun ($25 for OFNA or Duratrax), and Use THAT to determine your engine Temp. It will remove the Guesswork and allow you to easily monitor the engine temps.

During Break In, you want to get the engine temperature up to at least 200 degrees as quickly as Possible. Try to keep the engine between 200 to 250 degrees (MAX) throughout the break in process....

During Break in, you can use the High speed needle to adjust the Temperature of the engine. If it is too Hot, then turn the High Speed Needle CCW a bit.
If it is to cold (below 200) then turn the HSN CW a bit.
