Why 1/8th buggies?
So i don't understand. Why did they decide to make the standard buggy size to be 1/8th? What are the advantages of 1/8th buggies as opposed to 1/10th buggies? For both electric and nitro.

Im guessing because the size difference makes them handle better at places that arent necessarily a track such as a backyard that has bigger rocks that a 1/10 couldnt handle.
Plus who doesnt like a more realistic rc buggy with a big block engine.

RE: Why 1/8th buggies?
Mainly, nitro was for 1/8 and electric was for 1/10 when the hobby started to grow. There were only those 2 hobby-grade scales. Tell me one hobby grade 1/10 nitro buggy? The Duratrax Evader BX? That thing is a POS though. Then there will be the same question, why not 1/8 stadium trucks, why not 1/14 MTs, why not 1/5 truggies?..... etc. Also 1/8 nitro buggy is the most popular class in rc.

With the right motor/esc, gearing and vehicle you can get over 70mph with a 1/10 electric now.... but in stock form most 1/8 buggies are faster. 1/8 are also MUCH more durable. Take that redcat into something at 44mph and it will explode.

yes it will but doesnt change the fact that it goes 44 right? I know they are week and ****ty( as you get to own it for a while and compare it to others) but you have to admit thats fast for a $140 1/10 buggy

RE: Why 1/8th buggies?
No doubt that it is easy for any RC, cheap chinese HSP or higher brand, to run 40+ MPH.
But yes, the 10th scales are being flooded with nitros, when I personally agree, 10th should be reserved for electrics and 8th should be reserved for nitro. I guess it all began when someone made a custom 10th by converting an electric into nitro and insisted on racing it, thus creating the first "custom" 10th which eventually became teh 10th nitro . And when sanctioned bodies like IFMAR & ROAR found out about 10th scales becoming actual production RCs, they formalized the rules to create a new sanctioned class.

RE: Why 1/8th buggies?
Ahh all right. I was just wondering because eventually i do plan on getting a buggy, either nitro or electric. Part of my fascination with RC is also to collect, so it kinda annoys me that i would have a few 1/10th cars then out of nowhere a 1/8th.
