Default Engine Mounting Problems!!!

I know you are supposed to leave a small gap between the cluch bell and the spur gear but everytime I go to tighten my screws on the engine mounts it goes in right up against the spur gear? How do you correct this?

put a piece of paper between them and bolt down the engine. then remove the paper afterward and the space should be fine.

The only way I have been able to this is to tightne up the screws almost all the way then tap with a hammer and screwdriver to the correct distence that tighten screws more until the distence and tightness is correct.
