I bought a red cat volcano epx, first truck and got ripped off,i paid 350 for it at local hobby shop. he said any problems bring it in and he'd fix it. any way he won't..lol. my fault for not researching more. any way the problem is that the controls on the radio are jerky and some times the truck goes forward instead of back wards, vice versa, and the front wheel steering does also. there are several knobs and i've tried them all with no success. any input would be greatly appreciated. there is no brand name at all on the controller.

Ya, you definitely got ripped off. Report him to the BBB if you want. Hopefully he is a member and your bad rating will stick it to him. The fact that he would take advantage of someone new to the hobby sucks big time.
As for your problem, it may be interference with a cheap AM radio or the receiver or transmitter may be screwed up. Are both the car battery and the batteries in the transmitter charged/new?

yeah both are new,the charge on the car battery only lasts about five minutes, the truck was supposed to be new but the battery was not.
