I would really like to get into the RC Nitro Scene, but don't know what to get. There seem to be some cool RTR models out there that are mostly under $300.00, but I want some true to honest opinions from the veterans of this forums on spending some hard earned cash to be able to enjoy such a great hobbie. Any sugestions are apreciated.
Oh and by the way im interested in "On Street" Car types.

My opinion so don't flame me
Lets face it. Manufacturers need to make money and they will not put the good stuff and sell at a loss. If you want to enjoy the hobby, stay away from RTR. RTR components (radio and engine) are their cheapest and you'll end up spending more money to get your car running the way it should be which might include buying a new/different engine and better radio.
If you add a few more hard earned dollar and buy a kit, choose your engine and radio, I believe you will be happier in the long run. To me, this is the way to enjoy the hobby.

Some good advice there.
My advice is to learn how to use the search FEATURE. This question has been asked a billion times. You will get far more opinions doing a search than you will on this thread.

i'll save you the trouble of using the search feature for a race upgradable chassis for a decent price and komes with decent stock stuff you will find three answers (with will find more but duratrax and traxxas don't count when it komes to race upgradability)
RS4 3 RTR is great very proven car engine is lacking
RS4 3SS a little more expensive than the RTR needs radio equipment but the engine is a nice powerhouse
TC3 RTR great car cant go wrong with associated and the engine is somewhere between the .12SS and .15FE that come in the RS4 kits
if you want to wait HPI should be putting out the RS4 4 sometime by the end of the year but other than that without getting into exoctic brands like yokomo and the kyosho v-one series these are some of the best setups for the price and have a slew of upgrade and replacement parts usually found at your LHS. I know i am gonna get flames for the duratrax and traxxas comment along with brands like tamiya ofna and the gp kyosho series but lets face it if you started a poll the top two cars would undoubtly be the HPI rs4 and AE TC3
