Default Receiver problem?

hey guys, Iv had a problem with my rc10b4 maybe you can help me with. Im running a velineon vxl ESCw/ 3500 kv motor. geared at 24/81. When Im at any kind of distance...say 20 yards+ and Ihit full throttle from a stop, the car spits and sputters for several seconds..sometimes outright stalls. The steering will spit left and right while it appears to try and get in range. Once it gets going, and in range it runs great..stops and starts great when within 20-30 yards, but outside that it craps a bit.

I was using traxxas series 4 nimhs and was told it could be cogging caused by the weak battery packs. I just upgraded to 8000mah 2s 20c lipos and get the same issue. Im using a Futaba 2PH 2 channel radio...standard radio tower hobbies sends with their combos. Any ideas what is causing this? Is the receiver onoy good for that short disance? Strange because I can drive it well outside that range, but once Istop...getting going again appears difficult.

thx for any help
