I've been an electric guy for the entire time I've been in R/C but lately I think I've been bitten by the nitro bug... I can't stop drooling over a Nitro Firestorm, and I really like tinkering with things so I figure I will like the maintenance and tuning of nitro engines.
The only problem is I don't have a good place to run a nitro. I don't want my neighbors at home getting mad at me for running a loud nitro up and down the street and I don't know how people here at school would take it either. Where do you guys run yours? Do you run it up and down the street anyways or do you run it in specified places like a field away from people?
I may end up buying a Nitro Firestorm if I can get a job at the dining hall next quarter here at school...

i run mine here at home, and i go behind the local store in the back parking lot that is always empty, i dont live in the city so i have tons of places to go.
i take mine to the beach of lake erie, and to the smaller beaches at the creeks, and threw trails that i ride my atv's on.
for the most part they are no loader than a weed eater or lawnmower and if someone is in their house watching tv or something odds are they wont even here them.

Well I know my friend's neighborhood banned nitro R/C's because they were too loud and that has been the main reason I haven't gone nitro but I'm considering just getting a nitro anyways and if my neighbors hate it that much I can go to a park or something...

wow they banned them? is that a gated community or something?
or like does everyone own one...
sounds like a bunch of old people with nothing better to complain about.
if i lived there i would complain about the weedeaters and people mowing lawns to early or to late......
where i live i do what i want regardless of my neighbors, they always play load music and most of my neighbors are dope dealers.....
so screw them if they mess with me i throw their "traffic" in their face and they shut up turn and walk away...
im not the type of person to be messed with i make sure i always have the upper hand... plus i am very smart and it seems to me my neighbors are very dumb like very dumb.....
i do not go run my cars early in the morn or late at night though i dont run my cars till at least noon and stop around 7-8 at night but i also dont run for more then 1 hour at a time.
just use discretion and you should be fine.
you can always to go the school parking lots, store parking lots parks... stuff like that...
baseball fields are fun to

on my street for no more than1 hour on sat and sunday afternoon or at the beach parking lot at sunrise thats where you can really let them go 1000 feet at 60 plus its great we go later sometimes but you really have to watch out for the cars at sunrise in the winter at the beach the parking lot is mine its about 1/3 of a mile wide and square you really have to use your temp gun its so big they heat up quickly even at 17 degrees outside the sanitation cop stoped by my car one morning it was 11 degrees he cracked open his window and told me i was freaking nuts i just smiled

I think you should try running in the street and see if anyone complains. Or go around and ask them first. Either way, don't do it when people would be sleeping or anything like that. And not for too long. You'll probably want to go somewhere more open too as it gets a bit boring just going back and forth.
BTW, the firestorm is an awesome truck

Run mine out front (middle of overly crowded city
)
Its actually sometimes the quieter thing out there. I look at it like this they don't care if I like it when they blast rap music at 2am with the bass set so high it shakes my walls, I don't care if they hear my 40 Mph RC scream by in the afternoon. My one neighbor also has the habit of snow blowing and mowing at 3am personally I HOPE he's asleep when I run.

I run mine in the road and in my yard/driveway. I live in the country where my neighbors could care less about it. I just don't run it late at night. If i want to run it where no-one will here it i have 1/2 mile trip to seasonal part of my road in the statelands. I am also going to build me a small track in my lower lawn for my rc's this summer too.

i run up and down the street, and behind my back yard cause there is some bmx jumps, as far as i know you can be as loud as you want between 10 am -10 pm where i'm at. I don't think you are outside of your rights to run it in the street so i could really care less if someone does not like it cause i can't remember anyone ever caring about things that bug me, unless you local law enforcement comes to you and says you can't be there i would not worry about it.

I run mine at a track we made in a empty field, also in the back area of a city park. Of course up and down my street mainly to dry it off after washing it.
Where are you in Ca? There is a big group of us So-Cal'ers on another site with many tracks to go to.

All these responses are making me really, really regret buying an RC18T over a Firestorm. The Firestorm would've come out the door cheaper than the money I've had to spend on the RC18 in tiny bits and pieces (which seems to add up really fast!).
I really hope I can get a Firestorm in the next 4-5 months...

I live in a condo and I will run my T-maxx in the parking lot or out in front of the condo winter or summer.. I haven't had any complaints yet.. I run my T-maxx and my nitro 4-tec in a school parking lot on the weekends when school is out because its a very large parking lot that was recently paved.. I have several electrics that I run as well, but they don't bother anyone.. I also have a Baja 5B that I don't tend to run at my condo because its just too loud..with the tuned pipe its sounds like a harley and a dirtbike on steroids.. I run that at the school field or the local quarry when they are closed... These nitro's aren't that loud, but you have to be respectful if someone complains... Unfortunately not everyone shares our love of all things radio control..

I run on my street when tuning my cars and we found a little construction site I take my Jato and T-Maxx to. If I'm not running at those two places, I'm at the track. We have a track that's part of a park and it's open 7 days a week and free to practice until dark.
I just got some mini and micro rc's so I run those in the house and terrorize my cat and dog.

I run mine at work during lunch, a local BMX track when they aren't open, and wherever else looks fun. Once there has been some good snowfall, that's a parking lot edge across the street with my Revo. Only had one complaint from a neighbor about it, and heard about it AFTER they had called the cops on it. I was running at 2 in the afternoon, and my Revo "supposedly" woke up their baby. Cop came over, asked what I was doing and told me about the complaint. Turned right to them and asked them if they wanted me to mention their blasting of rap(which I can't stand) at 2 and 3 in the morning. That was the only complaint I've had in several years. Have to love living in an area where the people around understand that it's a hobby, and respect that as long as you respect their wishes, and yards when the Revo is involved.

I drive mine at work or on the streets and sometimes on board the ships that I am working on, slippery deck is great fun.
I used to run behind the zoo and terrorize the lions.
Local police station is also a good place to go, give em a race across the parking lot as they come in or go out. No problemo with the cops down here in Belgium, there just big kids with guns.[8D]

Right off the cliff...... Sorry I had to say it.
But seriously I'm not a Nitro guy but I have several friends that are. Around me there are very few places that will tolerate the noise. The people in Most neighborhoods around here will call the cops on you in a heartbeat if you fire one of those things up. It's the type of place where parents come out of their house to socialize while the kids play in the yards etc.
Most of the time cops will stop you from running them in parks around here as well so you're only option is to pack up and find an empty parking lot someplace. There are a ton of industrial areas around and that's where most of the nitro guys run.
I don't remember the negative attitude from people when I owned a Nitro years back. I don't know if I was just ignoring it or if peoples attitudes have really changed that much but one thing is for sure. Around here they are not accepted. On the flip side of that I normally have a decent sized crowd gathered when I'm running one of my fast electrics and no one had ever asked me to stop running one.

I doubt they will call the cops but if they tell me to put it away I guess I'm going to my old high school to run it.
Sucks how people can kill all the fun sometimes.[:@]
