Question about engine troubles

I have an RC10 GT with a Megatech M16 (.16 size) engine. I set all the mixture needles to factory settings and I burned roughly two gallons of fuel with no problems. Lately it seems that it's running really really rich, despite the fact that I didn't touch any of the needles. In order to get it to perform right now and as it used to, I need to take up almost a turn and a half on the high speed needle. However when I do so it blows the glow plugs. I messed around with it a bit trying to fix it, but have gone through 4 glow plugs in only a few tanks of gas. Blowing the glow plugs makes me think it's running too lean, but when I richen it, it loads up to the point where it chokes and wants to die, so something more than mixture settings is causing it I'm guessing. However, I'm confused on what the problem is and how to fix it. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -Matt

I also have a Megatechh in my T-Maxx and after only 2.5 gallons it needs a rebuild. Mine can't go past 3/4ths of the throttle without dying. Megatech .16 engines run hot and die quick. That is why you can find them for as low as $60 on ebay now. For $105 you can get a t-maxx 2.5 engine with a trade in of your stock engine, or get an O.S engine if you can spend the cash...

My gues is that that sucka is roasted and needs a new piston and sleeve. 675 is right about the engine thing, plus traxxas engines have a good track record as far as durability. The TRX 2.5 is a little overkill though, so a good OS or Mugen would complement yer GT nicely.

Well Matt, after 2 gallons of juice, most engines just take a crap. But thats not how they do it according to how your describing, it sounds as if your mixtures are wrong. Did you ever check the LOW speed needle mixture? It could be set to rich. Some engines cant hold a fuel setting because of the prolonged vibration the engine goes through, and the needles will actually turn on there own. Loading up after giving it throttle is due to a TOO rich low-speed needle setting, i think all you need to do, is set the high-speed needle to factory, lean out the low-speed a turn or so, and then run the engine at part throttle and see how she takes it. If all else falls, by golly, re-build the SOB!! Let us know!!
