I am seriously thinking of buying an nitro on road. I want it to drift. What nitro cars are out there that are:

1)rear wheel drive
2)PLenty of spares and upgradeable bits availiabe for
3)Not something too expensive

I could be wrong but I think electrics are better for drifting than nitro.The electric have more torque and are easier to kick out to start the drift.

the guy at my LHS built a nitro car for drifting he says it drifts extremly well but he has to change the tyres every 6 laps cause they wear out so fast you need to keep rplacing them!!

i have a hpi rs4 3 and its 4wd. it drifts pretty swell. i have faom tires, and when your drifting all the time, man it takes alot of mony in your pocket! but its fun though. it sure is a crowd pleaser...especially if you have a s15 body(nissan silvia)

<~ has a drifter... 2wd 4-tec with a hyper 21. Fixing it up and making it look nice to sell it. Poured alot of money into it. the rear wheels spin so hard that the cheap foams were all spun out weird... However if you nail it.. and turn the front.. it would burn out super easy too. cause the two rear wheels aren't locked so one wheel of course spins super fast making it spin around and around... too bad I have to sell it. it's definitely a very very good car. it will be on ebay soon.. look for a 4-tec hpi hyper 21

You put a honkin 21 in a 4tec? And THEN you made it 2WD and put foams on it?
Ouch! I'm sure those tires were crying for mercy! lol

You'd need some nice torque to do a drift and prolly a HARD suspension setting.

Remember that your engine wont be getting that much cooling while drifting and burning out.. so adjust needles accordingly!

heck it wasn't my idea.. bought it like that.. of course the kid had three impact sockets holding the sucker down.. no.. it had tires,... I put vgroove tires with the factory foam inserts... the factory foams were pretty much spun all weird.. there was a soft spot in a area.. so i gotta pull off the tires and put new foams.

I know all about the steering/susperntion geometry for drift. How about a HPI Super Nitro or the equivelent Kyosho one (i forget its name)

oh by the way, they wont be going anywhere without a suitable engine upgrade

2wd works alot better to drift.. 4wd is a pain cause you have to go fast turn the wheel and when the car is somewhat slanted turn wheel other way and gun it. hoping that you threw the weight of the rear well enough ... doesn't work well when your two front tires are attempting to grip also. I'd say try with REALLY REALLY bald tires in the front and then some slightly bald tires in the rear. YOu need a somewhat of a smooth surface I found that if you ever go to a school parking lot and there is painted areas, you can do donuts and drift on that alot easier.. less traction. Tried with the bald x patterns and it did pretty well, destroyed two tires though that day. I tried with slicks and it faired ok, doesn't work as good with good slicks though, cause they grip pretty well.

an electric car can easily drift using 4wd. i think its because it the throtle responds faster than nitros and the cars are lighter. i drift my electric all the time, but everytime i try to drift my rs4 3 nitro, it just spins out. you can make the rs4 3 rear wheel drive by taking the front shaft

This is because your RS4 is not set up for drift. Because your suspension doesnot have the correct settings, it WILL just slide, not drift. There is a big difference between drifting and sliding. Drifting IS CONTROLLED. the reason your electric jobbie is "drifting", is because it does not have the power of the nitro car. I suspect that your electric car is only sliding, not drifting. Drifting is only maintained wen the the rear wheels are always spinning, and i dont think your electric car would be able to do that, depending what surface you run it on of course.

BTW, i think you are wrong when you say electric cars are lighter than Nitro.......

someone sayd Electric cars drift easier then Nitros, well from what I know, I just built a Electric RC from Tamiya (my first one) and when I tried it yesterday, I could drift/360/backup 180 then drive really easily

and its a 4wd Electric engine

Electric motors have peak torque at 0 RPM. But Nitro motors have the most power at a give rpm thats close to hafl of their power band if not higher.

So end result is that nitros are closer to their sweet spot than electrics?!

I think a high powered nitro would be a better drifter than an electric. Besides, the smoke.. the sound.. the feeling. Nothin comes close

but I've never driven a Nitros rc, this one is my first RC and I tought that would not be much possible to drift at all with it since it was 4wd but it did suprise me

drifting = car turned sideways.. wheels are turned the direction your car is sliding(VERY IMPORTANT) and your tires are spinning and creating smoke in the drift. Now compare what you are doing with what I just said, are you drifting or sliding?
Cause drifting is something you gotta practice and I think some people don't know what the different between a drift and a slide is..

When your drifting.. your actually in controll of the car's angle and you decide when the car hooks back onto the road.

When your sliding.. wheres that Holy Bible again?!!

After I get my NTC3 set up I'm gonna try some drifting action myself. (prolly gonna be 6 months).

Of course I'm gonna put something obscenely powerful in there and do some sick smokin action and have videos for you guys
