Default buggy cuts out

i have a redcat hurricane that i have had in the closet for the last 3 years. I never used more than 2 tanks before i broke it and put it up. I dug it out and fixed it. i let it break in and everything but when it is going and it has room to open up it starts to cut out when it reaches the lower half of its top end and it never reaches fullthrottle. Any ideas of why it could be doing this?

as it is picking up speed and it is near the top end it loses all power and the rpms die. The buggy hasnt stalled out from this yet, it has just. It is acting almost like it has a governor on it.

If the HSN is too lean, the buggy will take off like a rocket and then suddenly die. If the HSN is way too rich, it will never achieve max speed and sort of gurgle along.

Another thing you didnt mention. How much smoke is coming out of it?If its a big thick trail its probably too much, if its a thin little line thats hard to see its too lean.Which side of the spectrum is it on?That'll help alot.

Sounds too lean, richen the high speed needle up by about half a turn and see what happens.

im pretty sure the motor was running too lean. There wasnt much smoke coming from the car before, so i backed the HSN off a little bit and i think that has fixed the problem. I am running the car in a pretty dusty area and i saw there was a film of dust on the inside of the carb. what can i do to help stop this from happening?

hows your air filter, are you oiling it up or trying to run with out??? Its the sponges around the filter that stop the dust from getting in.

oil? what do you mean. the air filter is zip tied to the motor and then to the little elbow piece.  the air filter is seated like it is supposed to be. could it be getting sucked through the air filter?

Your supposed to soak the air filter in air filter oil.Thats kinda what keeps all the junk out of the carb, you need to oil it.Put it in a ziplock with oil, mix it in and put it back on.Unless you dont have any, but you really need to get some.Reoil every 7-10 runs or so.

If dust was getting into the carb the way it is, id say park it.Ive ruined engines by having the filter fall off mid run and a tiny bit of dirt got in, byebye engine. And a costly repair.Be on the safe side.
