Man that looks sick.

Let's see, very little time, machined the beast, drilled and tapped some holes, found a few extra moments to anodize some stuff................

Wow.

whats the thing that looks like an oil pump

What ya' think of the gear idea? This way if I smoke the
trans all I have to replace is the Delrin outer gears and
not have to machine the entire thing again. Also notice
the complete absence of stock HPI parts.

I didn’t truly notice until I clicked “for full” size.

Really, really nice design.

Just curious though, wouldn’t a self absorbing clutch also help (similar to slipper clutch but different)?

And raceme, to answer your question in a round about, non-direct way:

That is called getting back to your roots. :)

i see how the whole tranny is set up but i dont know what that other thing is in the first pic. i see an engine, wheelnrim, then i see the other piece. sorry i didnt read any of your other threads that would mention this

Lasershop, you are an artist man! Truly metal sculpture...If it works as good as it looks, it oughta be outstanding!

Ok, imma nice guy and you're curious as hell anywayz so.....

Go to google, run a search on "roots type blowers".

You'll see the connection. :)

oh so its like a supercharger and it adds performance. how will the set up be like. where will it be mounted up on. if you guys informed this on another thread can one of you guys send a link

Wow, all I gotta say is that is really trick stuff. You need to post a video once you get it all together. I wish I had that kinda talent.

bruzer 12-11-2003 12:43 AM

RE: Id rather be BLOWN!!

Correct me if Im wrong but it will be mounted between the carb and the engine. thus sucking in air and fuel in order to lube it and compress/blow the fuel-air mix into the crankcase

I would to but thats another story........

DAMN man you definitly got the skillz to pay the billz ever thought about branching off into the rc aftermarket world??????

RE: Id rather be BLOWN!!

Could use some real engineering input on
how to make the two gears that will mesh
the lobes. I can laser cut them no problem, but
the design must withstand extreme RPM's. Dont
really want to destroy the unit testing an idea.
I figure it will be 100% overdriven. My bearings
are good for 70,000. Worried about the gears.
I dont have any way to make helical cut gears
and they obviously will be a custom design. Dont
think aluminum against aluminum will work. Not
sure if delrin will hold together. The lobes mesh
together and if they get out of time its gonna' be
"So-long Sally...

I am an aerospace engineer and I have many friend that could help you. I will do some reasearch and get back to you on this matter.

So how much would you sell those for?

They look really nice and professionaly done.

Wish I had the equipment to do that. If I did, I would have custom rc's covering every square inch of my house.

You got skill Laser [8D]

RE: Id rather be BLOWN!!

You are a true craftsman.
Unless you have a way to lube the gears while running I would not use metal. Delrin would not require any lube but the mesh would need to be really tight. It would be best to helical cut them, straight cut will work but they will make more noise.

I have never seen rotors with a straight vane on them, full scale blower vanes have a helical or twist to them. Also the clearance between the vanes and the case needs to be very tight almost line to line. The intake charge travels around the outside not straight through the center.

It will be interesting to see the end results.

Wow.. a real ROOTS type supercharger?

Niiice!

Dont know what to say about helical gears.. its too small for an automotive shop eh?

But I think the impellers should hold up fine since theyre metal.

BUT.. if something does go out of sync.. bye bye BIG BERTHA!!

Dude.. NICE WORK!!

Laser, just throwing this out and you've probably already thought about it, but do you think Tungsten would work for the gears?
