RE: Speeds
Most motors are dyno'ed and the RPM rating are USUALLY with no load.

RE: Speeds
my evader with o.s. 18 enging goes about 40-45

RE: Speeds
I would love to know hwo everyone comes up with their speed claims???
|
RE: Speeds
YES THEY DO HAVE A V2 VANTAGE AND THEY SELL TO THE PUBLIC AND I AINT A TEAM DRIVER i brought mine from my lhs 7 months ago look pics of the box
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...0/100_3533.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...0/100_3536.jpg ORIGINAL: odawg just to be sure i checked with peak as well and they claim they dont have a 19t vantage v2 for sale to the public yet, are you a peak factory driver... you must be, can i get your autograph!!!LOL! |
RE: Speeds
before people bash and call people liers - they should look at where a person is from. It says location under their names. Their are loads of RC products available over seas and not in the US.
Take my Futaba 3pk radio. The version I have is only sold over seas and was not meant for the US even though some have been imported to the US. Same goes for motors. Some are available over seas and not imported yet into the US. So keep this in mind. Cossie - I am glad you posted pics to back it up. . |
RE: Speeds
so am i glad i posted pics or that guy would have neva believed me
|
RE: Speeds
cossie, my bad, peak said they werent available to the public, they shouldve said not available in the us yet!!! thank you for posting the part#.
study, the liar comment wasnt towards him, that was directed towards the guy who claimed 34ish mph out of a stock motor. i think you of all people know how hard it is to get real speed. aliens, got nuthin but respect for you, trinity dynoes there motors at 7.2v, at no load of course. i know a good battery pack will put out more than 7.2v but iv yet to see a stock motor put out rpm that high with even 8.4v packs. |
RE: Speeds
I've clocked my rc18t at 49 mph.If the weather would break for another attempt I'm going up 2 teeth on the pinion (from 14 to 16 tooth) and removing the rear wing I had added ....55+ ???

RE: Speeds
ORIGINAL: studysession I would love to know hwo everyone comes up with their speed claims??? I have a radar gun, and a properly calibrated VSM on my electric evader. But due to the wheather and car problems, I havent had a chance to get accurate readings on all my cars. |
RE: Speeds
See how we're all starting to get along? :)
I really haven't been trying to start a big bash with anyone here. Just posting a few questions to add perspective. The chart on trinity's site doesn't really give all the details of where they get their specs. The pro versions with dyno info labeled right on them have different #'s, and the marketing info (that you'll see listed in the sales info) states the 30,600rpm as a target rpm at a proper state of tune. The 30,600rpm is actually even listed on the page for that motor at towerhobbies. What's all that boil down to? 1) Even motors from the same company are hard to spec based on paperwork, because you rarely get complete specs. 2) figure out how one company specs motors, and then you have to really be careful comparing to another company, because they may spec 'em differently. 3) You can buy 2 p2k2's or whatever motor you like, tune one for speed and one for torque, and you'll have very different top rpm's. and neither one will be the same as a 3rd one straight out of the box. 4) NO LOAD... 'nuf said there - big difference between how fast a brushed motor spins in your hand and how fast it spins in a tc, buggy, st, or mt. Enough of the pen and paper stuff... I think the real issue that got everyone flared up was the long line of claims of huge mph that no one seemed to be able to back up with any reliable means of measurement. If a car looks like it's going 50mph, that's great - doesn't mean that it is. If the previous poster claims 50mph, that's not a great reason to claim 59mph. Online anonymity does not grant anyone complete disregard for the common laws of physics! ;) And low and behold... have you noticed? All the big talkers and subsequent one-uppers noticed a few guys talking about actual numbers and methods of measuring speed, and they dissappeared faster than they think their cars run! [X(] ...and finally, this one's for cossie -- my apologies to you too. I thought you were full of it too. Here in the states, we've been trying to beg, borrow, steal, trade our children, etc. for the motor that you just posted a pic of. Everywhere we look, it's not yet available... I guess we're sorta lost in our own geographical boundaries, or whatever you wanna call it. It kills me to realize that you guys have had those long enough that folks are starting to move on to the next big thing, and we still can't even touch one! I feel so left out! [X(] |
RE: Speeds
odawg -- Personally I have a hard time believing most of the speed claims. I do speed runs all the time with similar gearing and have a good idea where people should be. I think most of them are way off.
I know this one was just a joke and he was not serious. But this one so far is my favorate: stock tmaxx-1200mph I do like the VSM - but I know from experience how far off it can be. Don't have to like what I say, just how I feel. Good stuff!! -- |
RE: Speeds
aliens8mycow -
As for manufactures and their motors. When they post RPM's and stuff - even with brushless the posted RPM's are noload. The manufacture does not know what car/truck you will use it in. So to post specs with a load is hard for them to determine. Hope that makes sense. You are 100% correct here: NO LOAD... 'nuf said there - big difference between how fast a brushed motor spins in your hand and how fast it spins in a tc, buggy, st, or mt. CHEERS & HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! |
RE: Speeds
For now I use the Venom Speed Meter - which can be an accurate tool but soon as you get ANY wheel spin or anything like that it becomes way off. Anyways... So far the best Ive got on my Tmaxx (which is pretty much stock) was 34mph, but it was like 25 degreees out and the engine was all out of whack. The best Ive got on my electric evader ST (using a 13turn motor) was 34 or 35 (it changes day to day [sm=confused.gif] ) but im hoping to break or get close to 40mph once I get some better batteries, change my gearing, and mess with the motor timing. I havent checked any of my other cars (they have all been broke, missing parts, or I just havent had the time), but my best guess would be 20mph+ for my mini-t (geared for wheelies though), about 15mph for my durtrax MSF, and 50mph+ for my nitro evader BX. Tommorow ill try to get a reading on the nitro evader, and once I get some tires for my mini-t ill see if I can clock it (might be too small for the radar gun to pick up?) The MSF needs a receiver and some other parts so it will be a while before I can do anything with it. |
RE: Speeds
jak, all that sounds accurate and very believable to me, as study said it just drives me crazy when im runnin a 10x1 in my tc3 and doing a real 42mph then some one comes on and claims 34mph in there tc3 with a stock motor. im usually quiet about speed claims till i just read to much and then burst, then i go on the defensive and go off on anyone i think is lieing,
again deepest apoligies to COSSIE, with his part # im actually gonna order it from the uk and ship it here. according to peak we wont se it or a stock vantage for quite some time, and im not happy with the endbell"kit" so ill pay the xtra cash. wow, can you feel the love!!! |
RE: Speeds
these speed threads always bring out the best in all of us. LOL
I am trying to get my car ready for another speed run. Have 2 new motors that showed up this past week from one of my sponsors. I can't wait to run them to see how they perform. ;) |
RE: Speeds
man I must be bored..... It is amusing what kind of speeds people think their vehicles will do.. especially the stock ones.... The manuf claimed top speeds are under perfect conditions so you know in our imperfect world, these times will be slower....I measure my times with a venom speed meter that is calibrated to within about 2-3mph.... I also have a few friends who are police so I have checked the venom against this...
This type of thread will always get bizarre and incorrect results, its just funny to see what comes up.... |
RE: Speeds
Yeah - the Venom being within 2 or 3MPh is reasonable though. It gives you an idea where you are at. But some of the claims are over 10MPh difference than what they should be.
|
RE: Speeds
exactly my point.... I know how fast my nitro is... it's not too hard to figure the electric is about 10mph slower.... I'm going to radar my rustler later this afternoon and see what it really is... The venom is too much of a pain to swap around vehicles and then recalibrate...
|
RE: Speeds
studysession - I'm anxious to hear how the BMI motors work for you. I've been watching for the speed record thread to pop up again, hoping you post some results. I'm having more trouble with weather than anything here... It's been 60-70 degrees for about a week, while I've been waiting for my new Feigao motor to get here, and now that it's here it's raining outside and the forecast looks like more precipitation and dropping temps on the way. So who knows when I'll actually be able to get outside and do anything... welcome to Missouri, I guess.
odawg - you should order a truckload of those vantage motors and sell 'em for a profit over here! [X(] |
RE: Speeds
What Feigao did you order? I have the 10L for my buggy.
In Fahrenheit (SP) it has been in the 30's here. I took my buggy out today and after owning it for two years and have bashed really hard before. I broke my first parts on it. Will be getting the gold leads I need to hook up the Chili-Pepper motors later next week. Until then they just sit here and I look at them until i get the new leads for them ;) They sit here and tease me. haha |
RE: Speeds
I'm feeling a bit teased myself... I got a 6s and an 8s, hopefully not gonna be too unruly. I have to wonder, though, and at this point wonder is all I can do thanks to the weather!

RE: Speeds
1 Attachment(s)
For those who do not understand the gold leads - you need to solder gold leads on the end of the wires to connect it to the ESC. The Chili-Pepper motors are the red ones with no leads and the Hacker motors are the black ones with leads. :D

RE: Speeds

Cool - what ESC are you using?
I was bored so took another picture. Brushless motors come in many different shapes and sizes. :D |

RE: Speeds
Well, I thought I had that all taken care of with a Schulze 18.97, and then a friend who lives across the country from me mentioned that he was trying to sell a Castle Creations Phoenix 80. He shipped it to me for $100 (retail is what? 160, 175?). Anyway, I'm sure the Schulze will do fine (even though you've managed to blow one up:D), and I thought I might as well give the Phoenix a try. It's marketed for large airplanes and heli's, but we'll see.
Have you tried any of the flight esc's in your cars? I'm assuming that the only difference between flight and car esc's should be throttle and brake profiles, if that. I guess we'll see - if it doesn't work, I'm pretty sure I can get my money back on eBay. |
