I checked and came up with this.[link=http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/cars/video.asp]Its still a nitro engine[/link]
I know what you are going to say but the possibilities are there. |

RE: nitro or electric
No it's not, and I hope your not talking about that tether car, that doesnt count for what Im talking about. No driving involved there, the current official record is 111mph with an electric!
|
RE: nitro or electric
yeah tether cars are model cars but they're not classiefied as R/C's as they have no steering or throttle control. They just start up and run at wide open until the tank runs out

RE: nitro or electric
I knew what you was going to say thats why I said "I know what you are going to say"
I am a mind reader kidding the power is still a nitro engine so it is possible to go 200+. the aerodynamics kept the car on the ground. lots of potential ORIGINAL: R/C fan-addict yeah tether cars are model cars but they're not classiefied as R/C's as they have no steering or throttle control. I told you electric was the fastest R/C car, tether cars is a whole different thing, and not near as fun. |
RE: nitro or electric
"The 2003 Guinness Book of World Records lists the fastest-ever top speed of a radio-controlled car as 111 mph (178.63 km/h) set by Cliff Lett of Associated Electrics. Lett, a Team Associated professional driver and one of the designers and developers of the aforementioned RC10, set the record with a heavily modified Associated RC10L3 touring car at Irwindale Speedway on January 13, 2001. More can be found about the record at: Need For Speed"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_c...d_speed_record I believe he was running 24 cells (?) to get that speed. http://rccaraction.com/articles/need_speed3.asp |
RE: nitro or electric
Check out this article about RC speeds. Interesting read. Not that any of us are likely to hit those speeds anyway unless there are some really rich folk care to give it a try.

RE: nitro or electric
Hey...I'm new to RC too....I'm planning on getting an electric sedan...but what brand should i get? I was looking at the HPI Sprint 2 and the Traxxas 4-Tec...I like both because they are 4WD. I want something that I can have fun with and add some parts and stuff, but without the hassle of Nitro. Please help! Thanks......

RE: nitro or electric
I started with electric years ago as a kid. I bought a T-Maxx a few years ago and, while it is fun, it is only fun when it runs. And nitro motors are very good at not running. I'm no expert, but i've been using them for a few years and I can only recall a few times when I took the truck home happy that all went well. Otherwise I'm cursing that it stalls, isn't running as well as it could, it's overheating. And fuel is pricey too. Plus there's all the after-run care (nitro fuel attracts moisture if left in the motor and rusts it).
Yesterday I bought an E-Maxx, which ain't as fast (well, not on standard NiCds, but you can get some big mutha batteries and go brushless) but it's plug and play. It's fun for just tooling about the backyard and not annoying the neighbours with noise. It's cleaner too. Great for impromptu sessions. But my favourite is my 1/5 gasoline Marder. It's huge, it's fast, it goes 45 or so minutes on a tank, doesn't need tuning every day and can just about drive over everything. And you can play with it, put it away without touching it, come back a week later and have even more fun. But they are pricey and you need lots of room to make the most of them. You can't do stupid stuff with it (nitro is probably best for that) but it's very satisfying to drive. And fuel comes from your local petrol station - just add some 2-stroke oil to your 5-litre drum and you're set for weeks. They're all different and have pluses and minuses. You need to decide how much you can afford and how much effort you want to put in, and what you want to do with it. |

RE: nitro or electric
yeah definitly do not go nitro as your first real R/C. I would suggest the TC4 RTR or the Sprint 2 cause the 4Tec is getting old and isn't as good quality as the other two.

RE: nitro or electric
im not really sure why yall have tuning problems with your nitro cars, but mine is in tune almost every time i go out and have fun. also i just got a spektrum dx2 for my ntc3 and was wanting to use it on my other one also. ive read that you can swap out the reciver, but i cant find out if you have to use spektrum servos also for the second car. thanks for the help
|
RE: nitro or electric
I don`t think anyone said they have problems tuning their cars . You do not have to use the spektrum servos , besides they are JR servos with a different color. Iwouldn`t be swapping the recievers everytime you want to run a different car. Just get another reciever.

RE: nitro or electric
everyone saying electric is better for a begginer, wich i agree with, but because you never have to worry about motor tuning problems. havent had any with my car yet.

RE: nitro or electric
A lot of new people into the hobby don`t know how a nitro engine works or have the mechanical experiance to run and maintain one. Some people that have mechanical experiance will grasp the nitro quickly.

RE: nitro or electric
Thats what I was gonna say. Im researching all I can before buying my first R/C. Im an old fart with lots of electrical and mechanical experience so I was hoping to buy nitro as my first car. Either a Revo or Jato. Before you flame these cars I know everyone likes and dislikes certain brands but all the articles Ive been reading say they are quality products for the price. I dont plan on doing a lot of bashing. I have a workbench in my garage to tinker with it while having a beer. I want to go fast and maybe some minor off roading to start. Will take it slow at first. Im guessing after break in its not a good idea to go out and open it wide up if youve never driven one before. Prob a good idea to take baby steps with a new 500 dollar 55 mph investment;) Was also thinking that new people getting into the hobby might want to hook up with an R/C club in their town and pick the brains of members with experience. Just my 2 cents but what the hell do I know. Dont even have a car yet.:D Is it a good idea to invest in some how to books for nitros. Maybe a troubleshooting guide also?

RE: nitro or electric
Both of those trucks will be great ones to start with . When you are getting experianced with it , there are a ton of upgrades you can put on them . Yes , take it easy for a while so you will know what the truck does on certain terrain and obstacles . Soon enough you will be holding it wide open:D . As a matter of fact I`m starting a RC club this spring with a friend and already have people wanting to join. I want a place especially for the little kids can run and not get discuraged by all the sponsered racers at the tracks we go to. Trying to bring the fun back into the hobby.
