Big block conversion
 

Hi guys I'm gonna do a big block conversion, as I'll be fitting a Toki 21 engine into my MXT 2S. I've already orderd all the stuff (some from Eddie too)and I'll be using a HPI Savage 21 Engine mount cos with this mount it'll be easy marking and aligning the holes up for drilling and there is enough room on the chassie it fit it..

LOL I sure will Eddie Cos I'm sure that If I used a 2 piece mount instead of a one piece mount it would be harder getting the holes in the right place for drilling..

You might consider using an Adjustable Motor mount.
That would allow you to slide the motor forward/backward, which SHOULD make it easier to get a good fit.....

True but I've not seen a one piece motor mount thats Adjustable only 2 piece ones, anyway I'll elongate the holes so I can move the mount side ways....

I got the engine but it says Pro Tech made in Japan but it should be Toki (not sure if they are the same), anyway I also recieved the clutch for it (From a HPI Savage 21 truck) though I was lucky cos not sure if the clutch nut was the right thread size but it was (Phew) all I need now to come from Tower Hobbys is the mount then I'll start the conversion. But this bloody engine is BIG even though its only .3 bigger than a .18 one, as for the carb it's HUGE, plus the engine is rated 2.4 hp at 41,000 rpm..

That engine is going to have so much power that it will be Overwhelming!

If you've got some Huge rims/tires laying around (like whats on the MXT-2S), you might want to mount them up.

It will help to increase the Overall gear ratio, and MAY make it a bit more Driveable......

P.S....I suggest the MXT-2S tires /rims, beacause the have a 12mm hex, just like YOUR truck....

The truck comes with huge tires and I bought over $250 of upgrades from Eddie so I can beef up my truck, as for the clutch bell on my truck it has 15 teeth so I'll use a 16 teeth one or maybe 17 teeth to up the gearing a bit. Anyway most 1:8 trucks have at least a .21 engine and my truck is a 1:8 eh?? so when I'm done this it will be a killer truck (the best that I've ever owned) and all better get out of the way LoL

Oh, I think that the only problem I'll have is trying to replace the fuel tank cos it fits into the upper deck so for me to fit at least a 100cc one, I'll have to try and cut a bigger hole for the larger tank..

My truck won't be a wheelie machine cos as I said I'm upping the gearing so it'll be driveable (though the top end speed will be higher) . If I don't up the gearing then it would be a wheelie machine

So is there a kit thats available yet???? lol I want to make mine a BB monster soon unless I put my modded sh 18 in it (but I think the BB will be more fun)

There's no Big Block conversion yet so thats why I'm doing it myself and it will be alot more fun (not sick). I did get the mount but the last thing that I'm waiting for is the metal clutch shoes (don't want plastic ones that came with the clutch) and I'll also be using a HPI 16 teeth vented clutch bell (Which I have).. The whole clutch that I am using is from a HPI Savage 21 truck, so as soon as I get those shoes I'll start and take pics of the whole conversion..

Hi ALL. I've finnished redrilling the new engine mount holes. First I fitted the clutch and bell (a 16 teeth one) onto the engine.. and fitted it (temp) to the mount..

Then I put masking tape into the chassie (for marking) I lined up the engine to the spur gear and using very small pieces of wood I glued the them around the mount (onto the tape). Once the glue dryed I then removed the engine and mount and without the engine fitted I put mount back onto the chassie into the woodie bits so that they will hold the engine mount in place, and I can use the mounts screw holes as guides (I used my bench drill) and drilled right through the mounts holes and into chassie. then drilled another hole right next to each other ones that I did and then filed out the middle and the engine mount holes are now elongated..

I filled up the old holes with J.B Weld (to add strength) and put a piece of metal tape other the whole thing and VOLLA IT'S DONE!! . All I have to do now is put the truck back together then I'll fit all the upgrades. I had to strip the truck down cos it would be easier going the job..

Damn I lost a few parts from the servo saver (bushes) so I've ordered them from Eddie..

Hi, Guys well I have finnished the big block conversion and it was really easy to to, but I did have a problem IE: the back wheel was rubbing against the Manifold, so for now I had to put a spacer on the axial so the wheel is out a bit more so it'll clear the Manifold. I removed the metal tape and J.B Welded 2 peices of aluminum and riveted them to the chassie.

However the shocks are too soft for the extra weight and they will bottom out. Anyway to fix that??

Oh I was able to custom fit a 100cc tank instead of the 75cc one (looks good eh??).

nice job brother, get the wheel extensions, you can offset the rims by an inch or inch and a half on each side. I am amazed the shocks are too soft, there is not that big of a difference in the engine weights. Did you run it yet?

No Edddie I havn't run the truck yet. But I am sure with the power the shocks will bottom out cos there is a difference in the engine weights the .21 is more heavy (I can tell) . as for the wheel extensions which one do I need??

you need the 1in x 12mm hex for the megap if your using the stock rims.

Thanks, the conversion was easy (Just get a one piece engine mount for the engine) as for the wheel rubbing on the Manifold I'M getting another Manifold/ tuned pipe. The Manifold that I'm getting doesn't bend so far out, so I'll try that before I get those wheel extensions..

The pull start had to be removed cos there was no room, so I fitted a roto start backplate (cos it was thinner).. and in case your gonna ask I uped the gearing a bit instead of using the 15 tooth clutch bell I'm using a 16 tooth and maybe I'll have to go up to 17 teeth. I'll see how the truck runs first (don't want a wheelie machine eh?? LOL)
