high speed needle: turn clockwise to stop and then turn counter-clockwise (2) full turns.
low speed needle: turn needle so that it's flush with carb body and then turn IN exactly 1.5 turns.
idle screw: gap should be approx. 1mm
Make sure you have a decent glow plug and charged glow plug igniter.
Hold finger over exhaust stinger and pull start until you see fuel reach carb.
Attach glow plug igniter to glow plug and pull start.
This should get it running at least. These are the factory settings that came with my OS .18 CV-RX that I put on my RC10GT.
These settings are rich and designed for break in, so once you get it running and broken in, you can then tune it for performance.
Tune for performance:
one running and up to operating temperature, make full throttle passes and listen to engine sound. higher pitch sound = more RPM. Turn high speed needle clockwise (leaner) 1/12th turn and then make another full throttle pass up to speed. Keep doing this until one of two things happen:
1. No more gain in RPM from last pass. At this point I would turn high speed needle counterclockwise 1/12 to make sure it's safe.
2. There isn't a good stream of smoke. If there isn't visible smoke, you're too lean and should turn needle counterclockwise 1/8th turn and retune.
Once you have the high speed needle set you'll need to tweak the low speed needle.
make a few high speed runs and then let the engine idle for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds pinch the fuel line. If the engine runs for 2 seconds and then revs up and dies on the 3rd second then the low speed needle is perfect. If it runs for longer than 3 seconds before dying then it's too rich. You'll then need to turn the low speed needle clockwise 1/12th turn and retest. If it runs for less than 3 seconds or does NOT rev up before dying then it's too lean. Turn low speed needle counterclockwise 1/12th turn and retest. Make sure that between retests you drive around and full throttle a bit to clear the carb out and then idle for another 30 seconds.
You should have a good temp gauge too. Periodically monitor temps and if they go above 270 degrees F you should check to make sure you're not too lean. I like to try and maintain temps between 220 F and 250 F.
