RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics
I too, am getting the RTR (Today! Can't Wait, should be on the dock in a few hours). I didn't like the fact that it comes in a "Toy" box instead of the Kit boxes I am collecting [:-)]... I wish it would come with some spare screws and parts like the kit.
Got mine from TowerHobbies.com. I put a $35 off $200 Ad Number on RetailMeNot.com, you can find it there.
I will do a RTR Teardown (vs Kit Buildups like what LB does) review this weekend to put my stainless ball bearings in, stay tuned!

really, you should have used a seatbelt
theres no argument going for buying a kit, with an RTR you get the pleasure of disassembling AND reassembling it!

I think I've built my HL 3 times, twice rebuilding it.[:@]
I don't mind, but I always seem to have 2 "extra" screws when I rebuild something complicated. Working on the savvy's tranny is a PITA though...

The only reason why I don't like re-building stuff is because everytime you unscrew the self-threading screws out of plastic, you are just making it weaker.. that's all.
If all the screws are machine screws, I don't have problem w/ it!!

RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics
I got my 1st Wild Willy!!! Finally!
The RTR version came in a box with a window, like a toy box?! The box came from Tower slightly crushed...
The RTR's paint job is very good. Much better than what I can splash.
Inside of the box, there is an oil stain under the gearbox!? Plus some yellow paint spot on one wall?! What the? << Did the Wild Willy STAINED itself during shipping? Ouch LOL >>
Oh OK, the spare tire needs to be repainted, no biggie, I can find a better color.
The spare parts bag is a little disappointing.

The RTR Tamiya Expec TX doesn't have a steering rate control, more disappointments but probably good enough for the WW2.
The frame, the wires are neatly organized.
Let's try it before I take this thing apart! (Hey if I messed it up at least I would know it was working).
Wild Willy Wheelies!! That's fun! But I had a goal to meet so reluctantly I moved on...
(I put on some bubble wraps on the back of the vehicle in the photo so the spare tire won't be scratched before I re-paint it)

RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics
At this stage I still have this strange feeling about the WW2. I didn't build it up so I don't know what I am getting into. I am tearing it apart so I can put in the ball bearings.
The diagrams it came with have the exploded view. No step by step build-up instructions I was used to.
OK, I guess at the very least I had to take off the wheels, then the gear box... I took off the shocks by mistake, I could have left them on when I take the gearbox apart... oh well.
Took off the motor. It appears to be a non-Mabuchi motor, not even a Johnson 540 perhaps <<It is a Johnson Electric Motor>>... looks toy grade. The motor has a strange plate between it and the gear box? I suppose it's there to block the holes for the optional 20 Teeth Pinion gear.
Got the gear box out after 8 screws. Now I feel a little better.
Gear box before and after ball bearings. Tamiya put on plenty of grease in the box. Good for durability but when I turned the drive axles it feels "gooey". Lots of drag.

RE: Wild Willy 2 w/ pics
I took out the differential. Curiosity got me so I took it apart to take a took. Forgot which way to put it back in (curiosity kills the cat?), luckily, I took some pictures I can refer to! Yea!
I put everything back, runs good! I guess my reputation as a good toy "re"-builder still stands! When I was a kit I was notorious for taking all of my toys apart, figures out what made it work, then put them back in working order! ( I also played with house-hold electricity, fire, soldering irons, etc.) (Kids! Don't try this at home! ) (Parents! Always watch what junior is doing behind your back! HAHA)
The WW2 on the stair. Don't think it could climb the stairs but the angle looked cool !!
Let's go over some pros and cons on WW2 RTR:
Pros:
Pro-build! I double checked all the screws and they were tight. Gear box well oiled. Servos centered. Paintings and stickers were spot-on.
Time-Saver. Didn't have to mess with paint, little parts are getting smaller as you grow older.
Comes with ESC. Some Kits come with ESC (Yellow sticker) some come with MSC (Green sticker)
Price is right. I got mine $55 over the Kit version. To add Radio & ESC to a Kit would cost $70+.
Cons:
Don't have the satisfaction of building your "own" vehicle.
Don't get to choose your own radio. Expec Radio is 27 MHz AM with few channel selections.
If you want ball bearings you need to take it apart first.
Does not come with many spare parts! Not even the short version of the bumper! Bummer!
Depends on your priorities you could go either or. For me, I might still have to buy the Kit version, just so I can customize it better the way I wanted. Getting a RTR just didn't quite scratch that itch of the joy of putting together a box of parts into a working RC car!

Pfft, don't bother, with all the wheelies and stuff, it will be all crappy looking in a couple of runs (I got proof!)

Gotta dremel? Hacksaw? Dikes? Trim that puppy down!
That paintjob doesn't get the paintstikker seal of approval! Needs more detail, less green, ya know? Rubber wheel flares, reflectors, more windsheild wiper detail, screws not covered, etc.[:@]

Yep, today I had more time to look over the body, and the paint job is missing out A LOT of the details. I might need to take some of the body apart and paint them, hmmm! []
How would you cover the screws? paint them over? filler?
I also noticed the roll bars have a metal core, nice! Do you guys leave the lights on the roll-bars when you run? Will they eventually break off if I roll the Willy over? How strong are the body posts?
