I had a slasher, now have two avengers.... I liken the slasher to a semi-truck, and the avenger to a ferrari...;-) If it was a competition to see who could take the most mid-airs.. I think the slasher would rock! Just kind of a blunt instrument. The avenger is slick.

We have been having a blast doing sport combat with the Slashers at our club. We're running GMS .32's with the short version mousse can mufflers and turning a 9x6 prop at 16,000 -17,000 rpms on 30% nitro and even with one less head shim in some cases. By keeping the weight down to 3.5 lbs or less and the c.g. as far back as possible, this combination really makes them haul fast and turn fast without losing hardly any speed. I have done terminal velocity dives pulling up hard at the bottom and the plane just does a fast tight loop, although it's not too hard to get the tail feathers to flutter that way, . Ya, the wing flexes big time, but I can't snap it. We have found that mounting everything on the fuse leaves only one connection (ailerons) to the wing for easy attachment and removal and reduces wire damage from midairs. We mount the Rx on top or on the side of the fuse just in front of the vert. stab and so far of the many midairs we have had, no Rx has been touched. It seems to be a well protected area from midairs. And the battery is mounted in the back under the horz stab. With the bigger engine, the weight needs to be more aft.

Talk about low cost and high fun, they're both.

Edit: The guys after some fierce battling. Notice a couple of the Slashers are a bit crooked. Also, I have been making a nice refined short mousse can muffler for the guys. Adds about 1500 rpm to the GMS .32.

hey, if you're in York, PA, that's less than 2 hrs from my field in Laurel, MD. If you guys ever want to try RCCA rules combat, or hold a contest, it's an easy trip. You're welcome to come to a contest here, or I'll drive up there if I can.

I know that would be fun. Although, with the sport setups we have been using, they wouldn't qualify under the rules. The trick would be to get all the Slasher guys in our club to put together some by the rules and also for everyone to have them all done and ready at the same time. Seems like there is always a couple out of commision from attrition. I'll bring the idea up to the group and see if they are up to it.

Just dusted my ripper. Anyone know where I can buy a HDPE fuse only for the ripper since lanier has gone out of business? I love my Ripper and want it back!!!!

I don't know about buying a new one, but you can get HDPE and do a lot of the cutting yourself with a jigsaw or scroll saw and drill.

You can get HDPE at a number of places, including McMaster-Carr at www.mcmaster.com

I figured with a jigsaw, drill and a router I could get pretty darn close. Someone at my local field tried to talk me out of it. Said it would look terrible. I don't really care that it is perfect but is this stuff really that hard to work with? It was suggested that I use cabinet quality plywood. I am leaning towards the HDPE.

Last time I was at our LHS there was a complete kit on the shelf there. Dont remember if it was Slasher or ripper but it might be good to check on it.
