I'm playing around with a 15-size combat plane (J&C Hobbies Fun Bat).
Most fly this bird with a Magnum XL 15 on a 7x4 prop.
I'm running with an OS CV 15-A and an 8x4 prop.
Anyone out there doing something similar and could you give me an idea of an optimum prop size for this combination.

From: Laurel, MD,
We all run 7x4 MAS props on the Mag and OS CV-A engines in A class around here. The Megatech is also a powerful engine in the .15 class, also with the 7x4.

Well, I changed out the 8x4 for a 7x6 -- night and day difference.
In the past, to maintain the same speed level as the other pilots I was finding my fuel economy keeping me farely close to the 5-minute combat flight -- finished several heats at deadstick.
I clocked a test flight with the 7x6 prop, maintaining a much higher airspeed, and got 7.5 minutes off of the same 2oz tank that I used to barely get 6 minutes. At full throttle, most of the other planes flying Magnum XL .15s and OS LA .15s could not keep up with my 15 CV-A -- finally, this is what I invested $110.00 for.

] Careful what you wish for! Either the people you fly with will also get CVA's and your back even again or they will not be willing to pay the 200 or 300$ they need to for new engines and quit. Hard to fly combat by yourself! [

Exactly the reason SSC was created.

Actually, for every 1 minute of combat flying I do with this bird, I fly over 30 minutes sports flying with it. If I never flew another combat flight I would still be enjoying this airplane.
In actuality, my current combat experience/expertise is not even close to being able to take real advantage of this plane/engine combination. Combat to me, and the other pilots I fly against, is still 100% LUCK!!!!

J&C Hobbies JC00308 Fun-Bat .15 Combat ARF $26.95
They also have 6-pack specials, Magnum XL .15 bundle specials, and accessory packs (all pushrods and 2oz fuel tank).
NOTE: They have suspended their production on this airplane but still have a good stock supply. Who knows, if enough interest is generated they may restart their production.
BTW, I have no formal relationship with J&C Hobbies. I'm just one of their many happy customers. They are actually over 110 miles from my home and are my vendor of choice for WildCat Xtra Premium 15% fuel -- I and others in my club make several trips each year from West Virginia to Pittsburg to buy fuel by the case.
