Canadian pipe is lighter, but is getting harder and harder to find here in the US. Some Ace Hardware stores still have the American pipe, and I have used it for both .25 and .40 size planes.

These suppliers are listed on www.spadtothebone.com as mail-order sources for Canadian pipe:
Dan Gipe: [email protected] Spad builder from Michigan will mail order Canadian Gutter pipe, cut to your requested lengths. E-mail for prices.

Ken Latem: [email protected] Spad builder from Canada will mail order Canadian Gutter pipe, cut to your requested lengths. E-mail for prices.

PVC Supply O-Rama: http://www.digisys.net/users/tylert/pvcorama.html Montana Spad, offering different PVC pipe shapes and sizes.

"More brittle"? No. But, Canadian pipe isn't as strong as American pipe because of the thinner wall thickness.

Blue Flat Bats can be found here:
http://www.onlinesports.com/pages/I,CM-40280.html

Orange Flat Bats:

Black Flat Bats:
http://www.palossports.com/store/pro...D/207/file.htm

The Black Flat Bats are reported to be the strongest.
