In 2005 a new provisional class will be starting up in the RCCA. This will be a GREAT class to start in because it crosses to three other combat classes. Check out this site rccombat.com

Hi SpyMatrix,
The Special Interest Group for RC Combat is the RCCA, you can go the web site by going to www.rccombat.com. I don't know what part of California that Clovis is in but there is a contest in SoCal this weekend. It is the Palomar event and it is part of the North American championship series. If you need some folks to talk to please email me and I will give you names and numbers for folks to contact to get details.
As 1Jimbo pointed out there are many classes of combat. The most popular are known as SSC, Open B, and Scale. The RCCA site has an open forum to learn and discuss all forms of combat and you will get much information there.
My personal combat site is www.georgiacombat.com and you are welcome to any information on it. Good luck getting started in combat it is a great sport with some of the best folks in modeling you are likely to ever meet.

I'll be competing this weekend at the Pearl Harbor Classic this weekend 12/4-12/5. THis is one of the larger events this year on the West coast and will be a great place to see what works and what doesn't.
There are 3 basic classes of combat to fly. There is slow survivable combat (SSC). These use a .15 size engine. There are some basic powerplant rules, RPM limits, and weight and wing area rules. It is very easy to fly this event and my personal recomendation for newbies. Kits are available from JKAerotec, Hat Trick, Roy Appleton etc. rccombat.com has tons of great info along w/ georgiacombat.com.
Next is Open B. These are planes powered by .30 and smaller engines. Theres a 3.5lb weight max and thats about it. Thats why its called Open. These are the most exciting to watch (IMHO) if you want balls out action.
Last and my most favorite is 2610 scale (watch for 2548 scale though soon). These are warbirds form the WWII era. 1/12 scale (+or- 10% if desired) fighters powered by up to .26. They are by far the coolest planes to fly and watch. They are however timeconsuming to build but 2548 is hoping to change that.
If you want to make the drive from clovis please do.

Thank you very much guys. I cant make it this weekend because I am trying out for a paintball team on Sunday and pretty much all of everything with R/C anything is depending on if I get on this team. I would probably go for the 2610 class. I'm not much for slow stuff and I love warbirds
so I'd have to say that would most likely be my lickly class if I got into combat but hey you never know till you know agian thank you guys very much for all the information.-Brendan
