If its flying great, but nosing over, then the only thing you can do is move the gear forward. But looking at your installation, that would be a bit of a mission.
But you should turn them outward.
All I can say to do is to pull full up elevator as soon as the wheels hit the ground.

Is the reason for turning them outward for ground handling or because that is how it was on the full scale plane? It actually has not had a really bad habit of nosing over on landing. It is if I try to taxi from where I land back to me, or if I try to taxi away from me for a take off. It actually land pretty slow so I do not have a lot of roll out and I can take off in about six feet. It is not a major problem, really it is more of an irritant. I would have put the gear more forward if I could have but the gear assembly is two deep to move any further forward. Thanks for the input. I got a lot of help from reading through this thread when I was thinking about doing this airplane, and when I was working on it.

This plane was made to be hand launched and landed on grass. IMHO putting on landing gear whether fixed or retracts is a waste of time, unless there is no grass to land on.
Mine has 100+ flights on it, all hand launched and belly landed onto grass, and the occasional dry dirt landing.
If you change the aileron servos so they operate from the top of the wings, and fit skids to the bottom of the wings, then belly landings are a breeze. Just remember to set the prop so it stops horizontal.
It will fly a lot better without the added weight and drag of landing gear. It's already got a high wing loading. No point in making that worse.

I just got one of these plane and it has several modifications, the canopy it has been lowered and stretched, ailerons shortened, belly pan shortened,wing span shortened. I am not into combat but i do love to go fast and would like this thing to scream and i mean like 150 mph. Do you think this airframe would stay together at speed like this. [img]mustag[/img]

I cannot say definitively yes or no. My guess would be no. I know that I have read about people putting .40 on them and they are really fast, and I did not hear about any airframe failures, but the plane is designed for a .25. I know that it is build strong to handle the g-forces associated with violent maneuvers you see in combat competitions, but because of the inherent weakness that the gull wing causes I think that it might come apart. I made a lot of mods to mine, one of which is retracts. This has weekend that joint even more, and I have not had a problem, but I fly it around in what looks like somewhat of a scale manner to me. I would say that mine is doing probably 60 to 70 mph. I would say that if speed is what you are in to go for it. Keep the throws low, because they are pretty responsive on mine at the speeds that I fly. Seal the hinge joints, so that you do not get flutter, and do not fall in love with it, in case it comes apart the first time that you touch the elevator at 150mph. these planes are very good looking and good flying planes but they are no were near anything you would fly in actual combat. they dont fit any class specifications and they are balsa construction. nobody flys balsa planes in sanctioned combat, they just wouldnt last.

My saito .40 with a 9 pitch prop probably went 100mph+ on the mustang. I imagine the corsair would slower by a noticeable amount.

Another guy has a .46 2-stroke on a GP Combat Spitfire. You'd need a Jett or Nelson engine to start approaching 150mph.

Thanks for the info everybody. The plane i have is the mustang not the corsair just to clear that up. Im having my doubts about this but i really want to try it just to make people look at me like i'm nuts. Im putting a webra 50 gt with a tuned pipe that weighs i believe 11.5oz, now thats .8oz more than the os 25 fx so i'm not worried about the extra weight  adding more stress to the plane. But just to make sure i am going in and bracing up the firewall and glass the wing just to make me feel better. Now the plane's tail feathers have been covered in 64th ply and "anti flutter tips" on the top of the rudder and outside of the elevator. The guy i bought this from had another mustang that was unmodified that he blew up from flutter at about 150mph so he took precautions "cant blame him". Servo's are all hs85mg so hopefully that will help with the flutter. So that is the plane, now what do guys think.

Thanks, i really think its going to fly fine but i do have one more question. Are these planes a hand full to hand launch especially with shortened ailerons? The guy also made a dolly to set the plane into and added a servo and receiver to be able to taxi out and take off and i'm kinda iffy about this. Do you think it would be better to just hand launch this thing or should i try the dolly?

I can not say. I have the Corsair and I was not excited about trying a hand launch myself. I never did try. I wound up adding retracts to mine. I can take off in a couple of feet of roll out and it handles fine from there. I have hand launched a low wing about this size, but it is an aerobatic airplane and has massive control surfaces and lots of through. I hand launch it by myself straight vertical, because I have unlimited vertical performance. I bet some of the other in this thread could tell you if they still check it or are subscribed to it. Let us know how it goes, and what you decide to do.

hand launching is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. for the first few flights, I suggest having somebody else throw the plane. once you get it dialed in, it will be easy to launch. with that much power, it will pull out of your hand really nice

My goodness, let's see the retracts on the Corsair. I've put them into the Spitfire and the P-47 but have not even considered the Corsair because of the rotators....

Go to post 672 of this thread. I have picks and then the next post is a description of the mods that I made to the Corsair. I think you have seen them before. You commented on post 672 when I put it up originally, but please look again. I am pretty proud of this model. It is my first attempt to do something other than a foam RTF since I got out of the hobby. I flew about 15yrs back and recently got back into it since time and money now allow it. The Corsair turned out great and is a joy to fly. The gear are even still in it after flying off of grass for a while.

I shim my gears forward with a small piece of carpentry shimming, or home-made something or others.. Sometimes on rotators they might not recess all the way into the wheel well, but it pushes the extended angle forward. This makes a big difference on nose-overs on grass I have found. I think I shim every set of retracts I own now.

On the Corsair, has anybody had issues with fuel getting all over the place trying to refill the tank, start the engine, etc? Seems like the tank is not in the ideal location. I used a Dubro Kwik Fill fueling probe on the side of the fuselage. If the plane is upside down with the wing off so I can see the tank, filling through the probe forces fuel out the exhaust tap since the tube in the tank is pointed down...sucking up fuel. Anyway...is there a secret to doing this with less hassle?

That is a general to all planes, cannot fill planes upside down. no way for the air to escape so it pushes fuel out the muffler pressure tube.
IF you are getting fuel inside the fuselage, there's a problem, regardless of where the tank is located....

So when the plane is right side up to fill it, fuel would drip out the carb until I rotated it back upside down. It also wouldn't start because so much fuel leaked out the carb or flooded the combustion chamber.
