Hello Fellow Flyers ,
I have just returned from Seattle Wa. back to my native New Jersey after going to the North West RC Expo. just south of Seattle and what a great trip it was , Terrific show with Great People and Beautiful scenery ( make a trip to the NW if you've never been there it's fantastic ) The show had all kind of vendors and a great swap meet with a large group of very helpful RC'ers with the same interest's that I have. But the Highlight of my trip was when I overheard this group of guy's talking about thier combat meet the next day and how the HammerHead has taking over the whole combat scene in the NW and it just Tears up zagi's, combatwings and unicorns , Now Being a zagi and combat wing owner I had to find out what these guy's were talking about , So in typicle Jersey fashion I went over and said HammerHead whats a HammerHead ? And after the initial shock of having someone barge in on their conversation they told me about this guy who Hand Builds custom flying wings for Full Contact Combat , No streamers here it's Hard Hitting Dogfighting You only get a kill when you knock someone out of the air. It's like Battle bots in the air.
They invited me to their combat meet the next day and intruduced me to the custom HammerHead designer "Jim" and guess what hes from Jersey and moved out west 12 years ago ( small world ) and as we were talking I was watching the battle when I saw the first Hit and it was incredible , Two HammerHeads hit at full throttle head first and spun like tops and flew away " WHAT " No damage ! I said, apparently not someone else said - lol . But then I watched a HammerHead make a hit on a zagi, It Distroyed it's top, shot out it's battery and tore off an elevon WOW ! I said as the HammerHead flew off looking for another kill . This Hard hitting Full Contact Dogfighting went on for five hours and it was EXCITING , The crowd was Hooting and Screaming and all had their favorite plane to cheer on . What a great time and what a welcome shot in the arm for thr RC world this will definitely bring new people into our sport.

Many years ago in Central PA our club had informal full combat. Our goal was to not knock them out of the sky but to just nick them. Now there were times that people did go through a wing here and there.
I used a Sig Kobra with a K&B .45 sportster.
Your combat seems more expensive though.

I know of the type of combat that you are speaking of , But the combat that they do out west is a full Contact with no points given for nicks or Hit's or Head on Crash's ( and they are wild to witness-lol ) You only get a Kill when you knock someone to the ground and you survive, if both planes go down then no kills are awarded. If you get banged up but can still make it back to the start line then you get the kill and are given 2 Minutes to repair your plane and go back up and hopefully get another Kill -
And as far as Expense goes, It is really very low cost ( if you have a HammerHead - LOL ),And thats whats great about this new style of combat It's got Increadible excitment from the constant collisions and hits but the rules are that you use a 8 cell Nicad or Nimh any size as long as it has 8 cells and a 400 motor to keep the cost down , Also many people were using a Hitec focus 3 radio that comes with servos and reciever for $49 and let me tell you these HammerHead wings move too. and then there is an open class that uses anything you want but they were not fighting this day . But the greatest design of the Hammerhead that I saw over the zagi and unicorns and combatwings is that everything is internal , unlike the zagi and unicorns and my belovit combat wing which have exposed motors electronics and or servos, The HammerHead's gear is all hidden inside the plane and protected from a full contact hit,and the servos are metal geared 81's" WITH " servo savers , This Wing is Meant to Hit and Hit to Kill and Survive! it's made for full contact battle and at the end of the battle last week I saw 2 broken zagi's 2 broken unicorn's 1 destroyed slinger and 1 broken combatwing and NO DAMAGE AT ALL ! to any of the 12 HammerHeads that were there, I was really Impressed and I have been around RC Planes a long time-lol . It's really a great design and as a matter of fact I just ordered one when I e-mailed Jim about the Photo's ( I can't wait) But this is a custom Handmade plane it takes time to build, It's like buying a custom Chopper from OCC or Westcoast but doesn't coast as much - lol

AHHH Electric. Now it makes more sence. Some how I couldn't see a plane with a .15-.45 taking that kind of punishment. Electric IS less expensive.

I apologize David-E for not making it clear that these are Electrics But I must say ,after all my time combating with gas I was really impressed with these Electrics , They really moved and had plenty of power. But you got me thinking about the motor and Battery setup in the Hammerhead and Jim from Hammerhead e-mailed this.

Thank You for your question about The HammerHead , It has a reverse timed 400 motor with a 20p speed control set at o shutoff , So you can sneak out another minute or two during the fight - lol .The Battery is Specifically built for us by Maxamps.com and has eight cells that have a high capacity and high discharge rate for a long powerful fight.
