Well, I'm finished building my battle axe. It was a very fun kit to build, even for someone as novice as me. I enjoyed it, and would like to do another, sometime soon. Thanks Alex, its going to be a good one!
I'm having problems with my OS .15la. I did the one tank break in, running it rich. Now I'm trying to get it tuned some, but having problems. It runs good, up until about half throttle, and past that, It dies. None of the adjustments with the carb seem to be helping much. I sealed up the back plate cover, replaced all the fuel lines, but still, no luck. Anyone care to offer some advice? Thanks!

Glad to see you got an Axe. You will love it. Maniac has it right, just keep opening up the high end. Are you going to cover the wing or go bare?

I don't see enough foam under the tank. On my HOR it acted the same, good up till half throttle, of course it looked like I had a milkshake in my tank at that point.

Thanks guys, I will try running it today, If I get time, and get it tuned some. I didnt notice any foam in the tank, but I might put some thicker foam under it, just to be safe. Not sure what I am going to do with the wings, I kind of like it the way it is, but who knows.
It was a really nice kit to build. Very enjoyable, and the instructions were good, even for a new guy like me. I can't wait to get it running good, and go for some flying!

also, my engine did not come with a muffler gasket. Seems to me like it needs one, but I didnt know if it did or not, being a smaller engine. Does it need one?

Take the muffler off, put a thin film of Copperseal RTV on the clean muffler and let it set up for 15 minutes (or follow the instructions) then mount the muffler back on. Then use the RTV to seal the backplate, carb mount and anything else you can think of.
RTV is your best friend, you best get familiar with it.

Trey,
The Battle Axe looks great! You'll love it even more in the air.
If you follow the engine procedure outlined [link=http://www.treneffrc.com/LA-15%20Clunk%20Tank%20Secrets.pdf]here[/link] you shouldn't have too many engine problems.
Use the foam that was included in the kit. Make sure the tank is strapped down real tight.
Do not use any silicone or other sealers anywhere but the backplate. The muffler and crankcase are machined perfectly flat. If you have the muffler tight you won't need a gasket or sealer. The O.S. needle is also high quality and needs no sealants.
Be sure to use only A3 glow plugs and good fuel (such as Cool Power Heli). Be sure you only put RTV around the flat lip of the backplate, not clear inside the engine.
It will take a handful of flights for the engine to really loosen up and hit 17,500. When it does you will have one sweet-flying airplane!
Good luck,
Keep us posted.

Well, just got done from the flying field. What a blast!!!!! That thing flies great. I'm a new pilot, this is my second plane. I did not have dual rates set up on it, or expo. That made it even more fun than what it would have been. Got the engine running pretty good. The os book said use a 8x5 for break in, and I also used it tonight, but I need to go down to a 8x3, like Alex recommends. I wanted to see what it would do in a stall, that was fun too! Ah man, I wont sleep tonight!!!

vwtrey, Nice Battleaxe, I'm sure you'll love it
I see you are just up I-25. There is some good monthly and sanctioned SSC combat in the Denver area. Bring your Axe down and mix it up with us
There will be some other Axes there as well as Avengers and SPADs. Airpark Elite has a sanctioned NPS event Sept 23rd. We try to fly club combat the first Saturday of the month - year round (but not to conflict with sanctioned events) - at Mile Hi RC Club. We'd love to have you in the furball [8D]

Just an update, I had the chance to fly my Battle Axe again Sunday evening. This time, I had a 8x4 prop on it, set up expo, and dual rates. The wind was about 15mph. It flew great! It is so much fun to fly, I usually dont want to land. And I dont have to land often, that thing doesnt like to use fuel. I'm really excited with it. I'm turning about 16k rpm, which is ok by me.
Randy, I might have to come down and watch you guys fly sometime. I dont think anyone would want me causing mid-air collisions, and I think I probably would. I would try my hand at it, but only after I learn to fly better. Its only been about 4 months for me.

Don't be afraid..........just jump in there and fly a few rounds!! There's no way you can "Cause" a midair in combat..in fact I would bet you........ that if deliberately tried to collide with your combat opponents........all you would manage to do IS CUT SOME STREAMERS!!!!
Go for it and enjoy..you won't regret the sensation, and the adreniline!!!

vw, mid-airs just happen - nobody causes them
Get out and practice, we probably won't get together until the event at Airpark Elite on Sept 23rd. I can't make that one so the other pilots would gladly welcome your streamer[8D]
4 months? You are ready to chase streamers
I went straight from trainers to combat. When it comes to flying something other than a combat plane, I don't ROG or land very well but I fly pretty good[:@]
Practice all you can and learn what your plane will do.

Just a little update. I have been flying the crap out of this thing. I flew sunday evening, and the wind was around 20mph, with gusts higher. It really didn't do too bad actually. It was a little sluggish flying in to the wind, but it handled it. Sure is a blast to fly! I havent even touched my trainer, poor thing. I think this plane will really be helpful in learning. Thanks everyone for their help on this.
