Wow, nice looking planes...are they kits/arfs or what?

Looks like a SPAD plane called a Sickle that I've built and flown, but I have to admit that I've not heard of "Grimlin" before. Any details you can provide would be appreciated.

Grimlin = Gremlin

The Sickle is basically a SPAD version of the Gremlin... (the Gremlin pre-dates the Sickle, and I'd have to check, but I think the Sickle designer was trying to make a SPAD Gremlin.

As for anyone else flying them, for a while there were several clubs in Mass and CT flying them. I don't know if they still are, I've lost track of what's going on in that neck of the woods. Maybe someone from up there can fill in an update.

Our club still has several members, including me, that fly these just for fun. We used to combat a lot, but now we just enjoy flying them for "stress relief". I alway had trouble with the Gremlin tip stalling and spinning in a high "g" turn. I built one with the aft fuselage extended 4 inches and the nose lengthened about an inch. I put tip plates on the wing tips and solved the stall/spin issue. C.G. is critical, for those who haven't built one yet!

I have one that I still fly pretty frequently. I have a buddy who has one too and we like to meet up for some combat now and again. It is an incredibly versatile plane and very easy to build and repair. I have a Novel .25 AME in mine and she SCREAMS. Love doing high speed passes right off the deck. I want to try her out on the snow this year. Anyone interested in tearing it up in the southeast massachusetts area, let me know!

Hi Guys we still use Gremlins for combat in (chicago)Palosrc club. We had at least 20 in use this past year. Its a cheap plane and easy to build. I hope to build at least 6 more for next season. I prefer to sheet and vacume bag the wing. I Love the sound of a good Mid-Air.

we have 13 right now it's just hard to get everyone out at the same time yet alone 4 or 5 lol the army one is mine and the rest are other club members that are new to flying and wanting to get into combat with us. we went at it hard last spring but we had a string of midairs that grounded pretty much everyone and it never took back off like it was until now i'v had 3 myself one with a glass wing that made for a spectacular mid-air and two covered in tape glass flew good but it makes the planes to brittle

oh ya our club has a rule where you fly them with LA 40's so there all equal

How long do you make your downspout fuse?

I have built a few spads and have a set of white foam wings for this plane. I just got some brown downspout so I think I'll whip one of these out this winter. My ancient FP 40 with a moose can mufler out to work just fine[>:]

I'm having a hard time finding down spouts here in chicago. Where are you guys finding yours?

our club (checkerboard/miller meadow) in chicago has a couple around.. we used to use them for combat before the battle axe.. super fun to fly.. I picked up mine from a guy on ebay.. I don't know if he has any ads up right now, but his website is http://www.engine-display.com/produc...l-aircraft.htm. He sells them cheap, somewhere around $40-50 if I recall.. They are durable with coroplast wings.. And fast and fun to fly.. Here's mine.. I modified up from the original plans with a larger fuel tank and an externalized throttle servo.. I call it the "Dark Shark."

If you can't find gutter pipe or just want to save weight make a coro fuse.

well the big plus of freezing your butt off tearing down houses is that every now and then one has the stuff on in so i got like 20 feet of it stored at work to supply our club. had a lot more but it got thrown away now were stocking up again.

we use a 20 inch pice and then stick a 1/2 inch firewall at the end with epoxy and then we stick a regular motor mount on

oh ya check at lows they still had a little of it at our store last year it was hidden in a pile of random gutter stuff

Hi there. Bassman here from Sturbridge MA. We have a bunch of clubs that have monthly Gremlin combats all over New England. Our Lawn Darts club has one in the spring and another in the fall. It is the most RC fun I have all year. I have four built with another on the way. We usually get bretween 12 and 16 guy at a contest. The comapany that produces the gremilin kits is right here in Southbridge MA. and our LHS always has a half dozen kits in sotck.

Our contests are usually in MA and NH. Check ou this web site "www.racores.com" they post the combat schedule. If you had a club that wanted to host an event I sure it could be worked out.

racores.com is where I bought mine (and cheap too). I fly it all the time! I started out flying them when I was in the Air Force stationed in Missouri in the early 90's. I've tried to get people in my current club interested in them, but most are flying SPAD's. This past weekend about five or six of us all got our planes up at the same time and started an impromptu race of sorts. We were all within feet of each other and just feet off the ground (and a few high speed touch and goes[X(]). That was FUN!

Sorry about that. I cant seem to attach the link. Any ways for fun one day we had a guy tie a VCR tape to a gremlin and pull all 600 ft of it while others tryed to cut it shorter and shorter until it was gone. It was crazy!!!!

I bought my second one from RA Cores as well. Everything was cut accurately, and it
was a simple build. My Gremlin(s) are my favorite!
