I have never used one, They are not required imo. I just run mine up 3/4 throtle and give it a soft toss underhand works fine. (thats a gremlin with a bb.28 on it ) Have not seen a catapult at any of our combat meets. launching with the wind can be a challenge though.

Some early scale combat models ( class 2105 ) had very high wing loadings, and tended to snap out of a hand launch. My experiences with a 1/12 scale ME-109/Thunder Tiger .15 averaged one successful hand launch in five. Once we'd worked the bugs out of our home brew catipult the launch rate went to nearly 100%! Most 1/12 scale (built to class 2610) easily hand launch as do the A and open class combat models.
It appears that 2105 has lost it's popularity anyway.
