Hi everyone.
I didn´t Know where to ask, and figure you combat guys would be the right ones.
I have a Birdy ten and I Live in México City where we fly at an altitude of 2,240 metres (7,300 ft) over the sea level, therefore we loose a lot of power from the combustion engines.
This Birdy ten is really tight on its cowling fitting only a 15 size engine......but i really doubt this will be enough power for the plane.
Could you recommend wich is the most powerfull 15 sized engine or if theres any 25 sized engine wich might fit in a 15 sized cowling
Best Regards.
VÃ*ctor Arreola.

Commonly available, I would lean toward the Magnum 15XLS. It is a little hotter than the O.S. 15La. ( There are cheaper sources than the one listed, but it provides better information. )

If price is no object and you don't care about throttle control, some of the Russian or European engines might really liven things up. You may have to dig a little further than these links to get to an order form...

Yes, it's commonly accepted that the Magnum is a little stronger than the O.S. 15LA. Consider the MVVS 2.5 as on par or stronger than the Magnum and I'd suggest that the MVVS quality is higher.

OS 15 CVA is the one to go for. Good throttle and lots of power on 25% nitro. Open out the internal silencer baffle to the dia of the inside of the silencer and drill out the exhaust stub as much as you dare.

Anyone using the Fox .15 for combat?

Pretty much the ONLY engines being used in RCCA/AMA Slow Survivable Combat (event 760) are the Magnum .15 XLS and the OS LA .15 This is partly because there is a maximum price limit ($85) on the engines allowed, in order to keep the cost under control, AND in SSC there is a prop and rpm limit, so using high performance engines won't do you any good anyway. The Magnum .15 easily exceeds the maximum allowable rpm limit and has to be throttled back anyway, so why use a $100 + engine when you can't take advantage of the performance anyway? The OS 15 CVS would not be allowed in an official contest because it is WAY over the maximum price limit. But for your application where you aren't using it in SSC competition and you need the power due to the altitude, one of the more powerful .15's or perhaps some of the .19's and .21's would fit in your cowling.
