Lanier engine
I'm going to purchase a Lanier Ripper (or is it Slasher? I don't know the name, it's the bigger one). From the two engines listed, and only the two engines listed, which would be the best power plant for this plane? Thanks.

RE: Lanier engine
May I ask why only these two engines? There are better engines available than either of those.

RE: Lanier engine
Mainly because they are in stock at my LHS, and they have a good price on them. May I ask what you suggest, keeping in the $65.00 price range? Thanks.

RE: Lanier engine
Check out the Magnum 28XL. It's in your price range. Read the posts concerning prepping for combat. Also keep an eye out here in the classifieds and on the "other" auction site. A good used 25FX can be had for around $50.00.

RE: Lanier engine
The OS 25FX is a bit more, but worth it considering there is alot less fussing with it. They run good out of the box and don't require the "prep" that the Magnums do... The Norvel's are VERY light and put out alot of power, but some have more troubles that others getting them to run reliably. I have a couple of Norvels, and I'm real happy with the performance and they haven't given me any problems.

RE: Lanier engine
Between the two you list, the Norvell is the one to go for. The TT is under powered.
It's no accident that you don't see the top guys flying the TT pro .25 at the big contests. Engines you do see most often (in no particular order, and I might forget something) Norvel (both BB and Big Mig) OS FX Irvine Webra (new engine, MAJOR power) Mag .28 (but ignore the .25, it's underpowered, and over weight) Jett .30 (less common, expensive, but hard to beat) Whatever engine you get, you'll want a mousse can or ultrathrust muffler to go with it. It's cheap and easy power. |
RE: Lanier engine
I've always wondered if the TT Pro woudn't make a good, fast engine once given the same treatment given to the Magnum. Never actually gave it a try because it was more expensive than the Magnum. Is there a .28? Same deal with the Norvels - their .061 is fantastic value for money, but their .25 was a bit too much money for me.

RE: Lanier engine
Hi,
Any of you guys have any comments/experience re. the MVVS .28? (with the one-piece mini-pipe). Sorry if I'm confusing the issue ;) Thanks, Blue |
