Shredder version 2.2
1 Attachment(s)
I just finished this one over the weekend after busting the third gutter pipe fuse. coro fuse with light ply on either side. Got rid of my v tail and shortened it up a little more. need to go weigh it yet but it looks mean enough. Started out life as a devistator, all that is left is the wing after 3 combat weekends. Should get to test fly it this week if the wind lays down a little

RE: Shredder version 2.2
Lost aother half pound in this design, just weighed it in at 4 pounds. the gutter fuse version was 4.5
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Looks like a nice target,, err I mean design.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Flew it last night, big differance from the first version. I think im going to like it.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Btw, I noticed you have a Macs muffler on there. You do realize that the Macs muffler is a muffler, not a tuned pipe, right? A mousse can will give you a noticeable power boost over that muffler.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Yep, i ran a tuned pipe for a while and did not like it that well. I switched the stock muff for the macs i picked up used and did gain a few R's i think a thousand or so but i have not played with the mousse can yet. where is the best source of info on building them? the old super tigger could use all the zip i can muster.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
I'm not sure why your worrying about RPM's. Ya know a noisy motor doesn't make up for lack of talent!!! Butterfly V15 gonna whup butt. Shredder V-2.2 is going down!!

RE: Shredder version 2.2
Mousse cans can also be found at www.flyingzhobbies.com check the special products section. These mousse cans have proven to increase rpms on .25s swinging MA 9X4s by 2,000 rpms. They developed them initially for the fun fly competitors many years ago and have a lot of experience with them.

RE: Shredder version 2.2
Whenyou guys get the Avengers flyin you'll forget all about the coroplast. Then maybe if I tie one arm behind my back someone might be able to take this trophy off me. I tried to post a pic of it sittin here in my living room but I can't figure how.

Rick Thanks for the info, and dont forget, if i had not blown off the first two streamers at the the throttle up that trophy would have had a different home. Gave away 320 points right there. You are right though, this wing is limited and hloding me back a bit. I figure if i practice with it and the short span that trophy will be mine.... |

Ok, I think I got it figured out. This should be a pic of the current home of the "Hell over Hillside" Trophy with it's attending security.

ORIGINAL: Rflyin Then maybe if I tie one arm behind my back someone might be able to take this trophy off me. Rick Ok, the gloves are off old man.... by the way, ive seen you fly, you better keep both hands on the box! Now if i can just find a small enough motor, i can come out and play with you boys. Aaron signed me up for the D-troit event last night, should be entertaining. Sean |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
You mean the RCCD contest on the Aug20th weekend?
I should be there. It should be a heck of an event. |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Yep, thats the one. Just went and picked up an OS fx25 over lunch. Take it home tonight and break it in and pipe it up so i can be ready to run with the Big Dogs. There has got to be more than .84 hp hiding in that little engine.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Are we gonna try to practice this weekend?
Rick |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
yes, im around this weekend, probably going out for a while tonight if things work out. Need to change out the throttle servo but that should not take long if i still have a spare. A little breezy tonight but it may lay down a little later.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
I'm in for a Sunday practice. Say around noon? The Butterfly needs to stretch it's wings a bit.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
2.2 met with an early demise friday evening. Version 3.0 will be out This morning for testing. I think its the last of this generation. I like the new fuse and am going to give up on the old beaten devistator wing after this one. Probably switch to a foam wing simular to the avenger. Its just kind of fun to experiment. Ill try to get a pic of this one before it gets sacraficed. went to tripple layer 4 mill fuse with thin ply outers and a 1/2" cutting board MM. Should be fun.

End of the line. Sun morning we did a little practice combat with the newest design and while the shorter fuse did make some noticable improvements the flat bottom devistator wing really showed its limitations. I like the new fuse, 3 layers of 4 mill coro and a cutting board engine mount but the wing needed updated. I crashed it out sunday and ended the shredder line for good. After flying onr of Ricks planes i can see the need for a better air foil. I think i will finish the avenger this week and start on my own garage version after i see how it flies.

RE: Shredder version 2.2
lol u call that practice on sunday he he !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Yep... We can call it "practice building new".......... That was a harsh morning!! But O what a blast!!!
4 planes up... 3 planes in the trash when it was over... Gotta love combat!! Man I still love that 2nd or 3rd round when it was You (Corey) Sean and Rick.. that was a great round!!! I hate to say it but the "OLD MAN" was the only one who went home with as many FLYING planes as he showed up with. |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Yea, but it's a rare thing!! And I'm not old just prematurely gray.:):)
Rick |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
hey Rick what kind of rpm u turning on those 9/4 props ? what fuel u using ?
thanks Corey |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Hi Cory,
Depending on the day, high humidity will lower rpms, low 18's to low 19's. The norvels like Wildcat. Rick |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
what % of nitro also can u take picture of mousse can muffler apart next to ruler to show lengh of header and can i think i
found that can that has a threaded lid im going to try to make one i picked up a cheep gms 25 and with 5 % fuel i got 16.5 to 16.8 if i can get a little more i think this motor will b fine thanks corey |

Hey Corey,
First, I don't know much about the GMS motors but that is right were the 25FX and Norvel motors run stock with a old style MAS 9x4. The new style MAS they call a G/F 3 Series has a wider blade and runs a little slower on my motors. I normaly put locktite on all screws and nuts and RTV on the backplate and the carb to case joint. More ntiro generally means more speed but I think most guys run 15% and if the muffler has a internal baffel of some type taking it out will help. Here's some pics. If you make one the rules say the overall length can't be more then 8 inches. I think 18k is about the middle ground, there'll be some a little faster, some a little slower but keep in mind the fastest plane rarely wins. Have you decided to come to the contest for sure? Mousse Can Write Up http://www.georgiacombat.com/KYMousseCan.html Rick |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
The GMS .25 is under powered compared to engines like the OS, Norvel, Irvine, and Webra. Yes, it's cheap, but it's not worth even that low price. Even with a can.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Oh I'm not so sure about that. If he is turning those rpm's with 5%and stock muffler I'll bet he'll get real close with a mousse on it. No matter what I'll bet it will be faster than the Butterfly.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Well, you obviously don't have to take my word for it.
But I have seen guys show up at contests with GMS .25's, and they have always shown themselves to be under powered. And there have been plenty of people who had them who posted their experiences that were consistant. The GMS is about the same as the Magnum .25, which is also under powered. Now, if you know how to work on engines, you might be able to figure out why and fix it, but it's generally easier to buy an engine that produces more power out of the box. Right now, there is one engine that is clearly more powerful than the others, and that's the Webra. The OS, Irvine, and Norvel are all proven engines with lots of track record. |

RE: Shredder version 2.2
Aaron's gonna have to start from scratch I'm thinkin.
Avenger is weighing out so far at the max. Made a FATAL error when covering. I used colored DUCT tape without realizing that it weighs a ton more than the other tape. Wing alone weighs about 1 .lb 13 oz. Stacked it all up my scale tonight and weighed up a grand total of 3lb 6.5oz. I'm considering keeping the Avenger for Hell over Hillside and slappin my .32 on it and scratchin out a couple of new ones for Detroit. I'll decide what I'm doin tomarrow morning. I'll be in the garage by 7:00 and if I'm starting over I'm gonna build a whole new BUTTERFLY that's gonna whip ass! Sean and Corey are plannin on cuttin spare wings for their Avengers this week but I'm thinking on just sticking to my whole Butterfly concept. I get a kick out of the design/build process and quite honestly I think the Avenger is cool but it's just not much of a thrill to me. I got some new parts ordered after last weeks durability test flights, so as soon as the UPS gods smile on me I'll have some decent combat gear. |
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Well after sleepin on it I've decided to take the tape off the Avenger and use housewrap and paint to recover. I also dreamed up Butterfly version 12 that I wanna build today. Rick,, How much for one of those extra engines ya got? Call me or something.
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
1 lb. 4 oz. stripped
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
hey Rick thanks for the pics that will help alot and YES i will b there !!!! my wife knows how much cheeper this
will be instead of going to the dunes :D Corey |

Avenger wing one covered last night. Start building header pipes tonight. Aaron, use one of the spare wings we are making and build your own fuse if you want something slower, i mean different.....
|
RE: Shredder version 2.2
Rick, is that a setup you are flying now? do you really leave the extra length of header pipe in the can? Most pipes ive seen have you shorten the head pipe to tune them.
