Criteria?

How much can he spend? What scale is he looking for?

That would help.

About the only ones I can think of right now is the HPIE10.

They are releasing a few new bodies, like the Monster Energy and Falken Mustang GTR's. Looks like they are asking $195 for them.

As far as rally, the only one I'm thinking of is the Tamiya DF03RA, but that chassis has it's own set of idiosyncrasies, which will cost him more than $200. It's also a kit, don't know if that makes a difference.

Tamiya XB's are also out of his price range, unless he wants to save a bit more. There is much more available, the more he spends. Even $50 more will open a few more chassis up to him. At $300, he has access to Tamiya XB TT01's

There are more, I just can't think of any right now........

Personally, not that it can't be done, but I'd not expect a chassis to do both, especially not for that price. Pick either rally or drift

The traxxas rally was supposed to be both but I haven't heard good things about it. Plus it's not cheap.

I threw some very knobby tires on my sprint2 and raised the suspension as high as I could and it was very fun on dirt.

Don't expect to be able to go everywhere with a touring car though. Made for smooth-semismooth surfaces, not ruts and big dirt jumps. Although if the jumps are right and you got a brushless setup, you can make a tt01 fly. LOL.

Edit: Buy used and you might be able to get a good deal on a car. Not to mention, rallying a car will tear it up, no sense in tearing up a brand new car. You could probably pick up a decent used tt01 for $100 or so. That leaves money for rally tires, etc.

Just buy a hpi Brama10b, it basically an E10 but off road. and they share most of the same hop-ups. $159 leaves you room to get a body of your choice.
